Post tonsillectomy, a 9-year old girl has a loss of taste sensation on the posterior 2/3 of her tongue. The nerve that has been injured is the

a. lingual
b. chorda tympani
c. glossopharyngeal
d. hypoglossal

N.IX can be injured during tonsillectomy because it is near tonsilla palatina

The glossopharygeal n., CN IX, relays general sensory and taste sensation to the posterior 1/3 of the tongue. The anterior 2/3 portion is innervated by the lingual (general sensory) and chorda tympani (taste).
