Hi,
I will be starting MERP at ROSS in December '05. I am wondering if there are any stats on how many individuals are successful in completing MERP and gaining admission to the M.D. program. Having taken time off between undergrad and medical school - I am not at all put off my by acceptance to MERP, except that it is obviously stressful to know that you could possibly blow it. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Nan123

No, its not premed. Ross University does not offer pre-med classes. MERP is the Medical Education Review Program (or something like that) where they prepare students who need some catch-up before they start medical school. MERP students have the same pre-reqs but they have been out of school for a while or have somewhat lower stats.

MERP - Medical Education Review Program
you take : Medical Physiology, Med Biochemistry, Histology, Microbiology, some Immunology and some DPS (Doctor,Patient & Society) It's not a premed, it gives you a taste of what you'll see on the Island.. It lasts 4 months, held in Miami. It's a guaranteed admission to Ross, if you PASS. 80% or more General GPA. No individual class with less than 70%...
hope this helps..
former MERPER..

Yep, pretty much premed still. It only gives you a mere "taste" of what is to come in the next 4 semesters since 1st semester is generally easier than the rest of the semesters. LSU 1000

Moreso a PREVIEW than a REVIEW.

How does the financial aids work for this program? Do you get stafford loans or signature loans? Cuz Teri and HealthX is for medical students only. Thanks.

You are correct. No, you cannot get federal loans for it UNLESS they have made it a Devry University program which would be a smart move (I don't think they have done this yet). Students are offered private signature loans through Sallie Mae to cover MERP. MERP, as far as I know, does not go on your Ross transcript or anything - its simply a pre-course.

I'm sorry but I don't agree. Pre med courses are always at an undergrad level. Gen Chem, Biology, zoology. You name it.. They have NOTHING to do with Medical school. Although MERP gives you a "taste", you can just ask the MERPERS on the island on their performance. I think, they're ALL here, acutally some of them have 4.0 averages. Other Non MERPERS have even left the island..
I'm just saying that people, specially ones that HAVE NOT gone through the program, talk about it like they know. It will give you a heads up, specially in Physiology and Micro and Histo. All of us that did DO MERP are happy about it.
If this is you way into MED school, just "Take a shot!!" If not appy to other schools and just follow your dreams, wherever that might be.

As for what i have heard, my sister in law starts MERP in April/06, this classes do not count or are credited for the first semester, it is just a way of giving a chance to students who were not accepted in the medical program, so it is up to you to proove that you can do it, and also to take from you $11,000 extra dollars!!
