You'd think that dominicans would be lazy about everything, including enforcing the rules.
I've noticed that some black people do get preferential treatment on AA, and get away with excess baggage.
Have you, or anyone you've known or seen, been allowed to check in extra weight, especially if the plane isn't full?

i assume you are talking about leaving the island after 4th semester. My son actually had 60 extra pounds when he left the island on American Eagle. He gave $20 to the individuals that scrutinize your luggage in the small room at the airport. i was in the room myself when I went to Dominica in Aug 2003. I guess it is some form of corruption but it worked for him. The other way of getting more luggage on is to find someone from another semester that is going home with little luggage and have them check in one of your bags. Since you pick it up in Puerto rico you can get it. The only thing is you will have to recheck the bag sincethe person will probably be going to a different final destination.
Good luck when you get to Miami.

Yup, $20-$50 EC should do it. It worked for me.

Let me know which airline you all our taking so I can be sure to avoid it.... seeing as how the excess baggage and all, oh I don't know....like send the plane crashing perhaps?
Although I haven't heard of any going down lately. I suppose anythings possible. If they don't let too many people do it, than it sounds like a good deal. But are they consistent? In other words can you rely on that every time you fly?

I don't think they overload the plane with excess baggage. I think what happens is that the last people to check in get their luggage coming a few days later.

they let you check in 2 pieces.
The thing is, I am going to have a 3rd piece- a box of books.
I'm assuming the bribe works not only for extra weight, but extra pieces too?
I'm perfectly willing to give them 50ec under the table. It would cost me 400ec if i were to ship the package.

Going to Dominica I got away with taking 60 lbs extra, leaving Dominica paid $20 bucks. Was tempted to leave the pans though.

it seems the consensus is 20 EC.
Do the baggage people ask for this amount? Or is it just the most convenient bill you have in your wallet....?

Just have it in your wallet. When you open your wallet, they will see that is all that you have. Use the excuse that you pay mostly with credit.
