Congrats on your exceptance, and best of luck as you begin this important jorney of your life. If any of you have not contacted me for the "street version" of surviving in Dominica, please feel free to drop me a p/m. In order for me to share it with you, I will need your private email address, as it is a large file with pictures, and the VMD mail can't handle it. Students have found it informational and helpful, and many family members are put at ease when they read and understand what you are about to do. If any parents or s/o's want to contact me for information on how to support you, I am willing to entertain their questions, too.

Hey everyone,

I wasn't sure about my status but I got rolled into January also. I look forward to meeting everyone down there!! I'm 23/f/san jose. Anyone taken care of housing or bought a ticket yet? I don't know if I want to arrive before New Year's to handle it but I heard a lot of students this term were left without housing for while before finding some.

I booked my plane ticket today and I am planning to arrive on the island Dec 28th. Just wondering who had booked a flight and what day you were arriving.

10-04-2005, 08:22 PM
Hi tiger,
I'm still undecided on when i would wanna come down to the island. If you don't mind me asking... how much did you pay for your ticket and when are you planning to come back to US (meaning is it at the end of each semester)? I'm thinking of leaving from LAX on Jan 3rd and i'm being quoted a very high price for the tickets. Any comments. And btw where would you be flying in from? Thanks in advance.

To Garfieldcat:
I had the same problem with Orbitz and Yes, you do have to contact the airlines. I found a couple for about 850 total (tax and everything) from Houston. Other websites were at least 100 bucks more and most of them are overnight flights.

Also, yes I am into running as part of my work out...lifting without cardio is completely useless...

does Austin have the best deals? I am trying to book a flight. What is the best date to get there? And for those who have already purchased a ticket, how much did u pay for it. I just talked to Austin and they quoted me for $1057. Is that fair? Thank you in in advance.

Hi all,
Just got back from Dominica today. I went to secure housing and set up banking. I don't know about in Jan, but I had to have my letter of acceptance to set up banking so you may want to make sure that you bring it with you when you go to the island. I ended up having to sit in the Dean's office for an hour waiting for Miami to fax it over. Other than that, it was a great trip and the people at Ross were extremely nice and helpful and I am looking foward to starting in Jan.

Hi cooli,
I recieved one today. I think the Student ID is the one that shows on the Financial AId Award letter...i'm not sure though. i'm gonna call my NSC and ask to be on the safe side. Also, what about the Ross email? I don't have one..do you?

a lot of students have friends or even family members (like myself) who've attended ross before, so for some of us figuring out which housing is good and which isn't that great is a bit easier

what everyone recommends though is that you not be too concerned with finding great housing right away, as you'll get the chance to pick good housing and good roomates (if wanted) for 2nd semester...

Ross will try to hype up RUH as much as possible, but students that have been there will tell you that it is more of a dump than anything else..

generally anything on banana or lizard trail will suit you just fine

What is it? Is the school suppose to assign it to us; if so I don't believe they have assigned me one yet.

For Pre-registration I just submitted it without filling in the ID number and just filled in everything else. I got a confirmation pretty soon after that so I guess it worked.

Sorry for my late response. It appears that I'm the only one on the list below with no stats, so here they are.

Illumenar - 23/male/San Francisco, CA/Biology, Psychology, Physiology

I've been trying to create a mini contact list so far of our class, I've got about like 8 or so names with IMs and emails. When I'm done composing the list, I'll post it here. I've been talking to a lot of students from our class, and it seems like everyone is in the same boat, in terms of questions, paperwork, nervousness :p Anyway, feel free to PM me or post anything with questions, etc. There's about 6 weeks left before we come down to the island! Can't wait to see everyone.

Hey everyone,

Our class size for Jan 06 is around 200 people. I know one of the advisors (Norma) sent out a contact list to her students which had around 100 or so of us on it. It also included the state of residency and email info. I was wondering if anyone contacted Ed, the other advisor, to see when or if he was going to send his list (I'm assuming the other 100 students). I think it would be helpful to meet with someone from your area, especially if your flight is on the same day!

from what norma explained to me, the list only contains students who agreed to be contacted and have their info displayed like that to other students. I'm sure a lot of ppl didnt want to do that, so its possible that it may be the only list.

Yeah, after they received my deposit. I know it's not the best place to live, but I decided that it would be better to stay there the first semester and move out second semester, after I'm more familiar with the Island and what it has to offer. Having a class size of 200 will be good for you guys. My class size started at about 425. There is so many of us it took 5 hours to do our Anatomy practicum and they had to install new air conditioning units in our lecuture hall. Being sequestered for 4 hours really sucked!!! So you guys at max would be sequestered for 2 hours. Good luck to you guys!!

I am on that LIAT flight via Antigua on the 2nd. Did you notice the baggage restriction - 50 lbs total (including the carry-on)?! Guess I will be making an Amerijet shipment.

Hello to all of the new students that are joining us all in January. I am from Miami and will be there from the 16th of December to the 7th of January. Anyone that is from Miami or will be there during that time and wants to talk to a current student just send me a message. I am going into 4th semester in January so I may know a thing or two that mya help you out. I know that right before I came over here I had the chance to speak to someone that had just come back from Dominica and it helped me alot. So again, anyone in the Miami area that wants to talk to a current student just send me a message. Just keep in mind that it may take me a couple of days to respond because we are in the middle of finals and as you can see I am making this post at 1:50am during a study break. Best of luck to all of you. :D
