Has anybody heard anything about CAHSU (Belize Medical College) and problems it has with the state of Texas? You attend 2 semesters in Belize and the balance in Juarez, Mexico?

I'm trying to gather information on this school. I have a friend who transferred from Dominican Republic, did his clinicals in Juarez and is practicing in AR. Why isn't there a section on here about this school? I really want to attend. The first 8 months are in Belize and then you transfer to Mexico, Juarez. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if you want to practice in texas, it might be a little tuff. they are becoming as hard nosed as CA. a lot of schools have problems with texas. ask any questions if you'd like.

Thanks for the words. Do you anything much about the school or the program itself? Why isn't there a forum here for CAHSU?

just like anywhere you go, there will be the good, the bad and the ugly. i've had some of the best teachers in my life at this school. i've had awful teachers. you will get out of it what you put into it. some in our class will be making 90+ on step one here soon, and some will be failing. we all went to the same school.

the belize campus is getting better, or so i hear. they have aquired more building space, but their downfall is they try to show outwardly that the school is progressing while neglecting what makes the school great... i.e., students and staff. belize has some pretty parts, the school recently started doing tours to the sites (mayan ruins, caves, blue hole, etc). juarez is semesters 3-5. they have some very knowledgable profs here, some are very challenging, others not, so you have to read on your own.

SO over all! if you had the choice to go to either one of the following schools, where would you go?
1. Spartan
2. CAHSU
3. St. Mathews
4. St Eustasius

Gentleman, gentleman! Can't we all just get along! :) I appreciate all the responses. Honestly, I tend to believe you get what you put into it. I am leaning toward the school for a couple of reasons. First is I live in Dallas Texas and my family, wife, kids, etc. live there. The Juarez component is attractive since I could live in El Paso and fly home often. Second is that I have a friend I grew up with who graduated from here 5 years ago and is already in private practice in AR. His four best buds also secured residencies and are practicing.

I'm an older student, 39, returning to med school after 17 years. Because of my age, in the year it would take me to study for the MCAT again, I could do some self-review in Biochem, Microbiology, A&P and just start! Reading all this stuff is making me a bit nervous. I can probably get in anywhere, but St. George is too far and I have heard bad things about Ross. But, I guess we hear bad things about every school.

I am also looking at St. Matthews too. You spend a year in Caymans and then to Maine and rotations. What about the school in Antigua that has a twinning program with Manipal in India. Manipal is the fourth best school in India out of about 350.

I live in Texas so licensing may be difficult. I spoke to the Medical lic. board and currently, they do not have a "list" of schools that are not lic. eligible. I would love to practice in TX but I guess there are 49 other states. Any feedback for me people? Thanks.

Oh Latin Lover, FYI from what I know, CAHSU and St. Matthews are better bets than the other two.

yep, i'm here. already did the belize thing. my family is from houston, so it made sense for me too.
(you might want to add CA to that list)
there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for tx. the school just bought another building. it's purpose would be for the residency affiliation at karl hussner hospital in belize city. we would be the only school in belize with a residency affiliation at a hospital in the country. furthermore, most caribbean schools don't have an actual residency affiliated hospital in their country.
it shows (to certain state medical boards, i.e., Texas) that the school is established enough to have an affiliation, and looks really good.
so maybe Texas isn't out of the question one day for us.

(I am not a native english speaker and in this e-mail, there might be some typos. I hope that my mistakes are acceptable.)

I am one of the Korean students(Republic of Korea) who are totally eager to apply to Belize medical school.

In fact, Belize (even the name of nation, school, location) is not really familiar to me and

I've been trying to get some information from such as the formal web site of the school(cahsu.edu) and online encyclopedia.

Unfortunately, it was a little difficult to gain sufficient information I want to know of. Even the font of the school web was very tiny

and i could hardly make out the words.(the font on the web was 7.5 T.T)

To get some information, i would like to contact to one of any students who are currently studying in Belize.

How could I have any ways to get to contact with some of them? or Where could i know about some of their e-mail adresses?
