All i can say is that God help you first semester fellows understanding, learning, and surviving with having him teaching again. Not meaning to scare you all, but get ready for some interesting semester as far as histo and embryo goes!

I overheard some people concerned about how his exams maybe written. But is this a case where one has to endure the experience of class, and then go home and learn from the text?

Anyway, Giovanni can you elaborate?

I have to say that I was a bit dissapointed with his lecture... so that means we will have to study more or less ourselves...

So here is the deal; I spoke to upper-classman and he said that his class took this guy and 40% of his class failed, and some failed twice. Now to me, that is frigin scary....besides the fact we don't have his book cause of the unorganized book list that came out, but his notes are not clear. The upper-classman also said the stuff he tested on was irrelevent to what is tested on the USMLE. My question is why would SMU bring this guy back? Looks like a tough semester for us first-termers.....good luck to all.

WOW.... I had him for 2 weeks in Cayman then Ivan came and Dr. R taught us both courses in Maine. All I can say was I was not too happy in his class as he would give 100 slides, cover 20 of them in the lect. then say your on your own. He would say he has no time to answer questions and if you complained then he would make the tests harder. What happened to Dr. R?

The truth about Dr. P is this:

If you make it through his classes you will be in excellent shape for pathology!!

He teaches you everything you need to know for histology. In embryo his class wasnt so clinically based but that may change this semester.

He is a tough prof, but if you make it through you have earned your right to move on to 2nd semester.

I agree Dr. P is a tough nosed teacher who wont take anything from anyone, however if you spend the time listening to him and study his notes you should be ok.

As said earlier his tests are difficult but know that hundreds of others student just like you have gone on to pass his class.

Study histo hard b/c it will def help for path.

Embryo I thought was too specific but he certainly knows his material. Go to his office for questions b/c he is very welcomming.

Good luck...

Thanks very much for all the useful info guys, so we should pretty much stick to his notes when studying correct? Also, what exactly was so hard about his class/tests?

Dr. P is a really good prof just make sure to sit in the front and not get distracted by the other students who will complain of his minor accent (you get used to it after 1 wk)

In general you should stay away from these type of negative people b/c they wont help you out in medical school nor life for that matter.

Anyways study his notes they are well prepared and go to all lectures b/c he stresses certain things.

Good luck guys

Well there are 180 of us in this class, so sitting in the front is easier said than done. But his recent lecture in Histology was very good, and if you really pay attention you can understand his every word, even if you're pressed against the back wall.

Have students adapted to Dr. ******?

I am still a prospective student and would like to know how students feel about their histo & embryo prof.

The general consensus is that the anatomy prof is really good

How about PD 1 - who teaches it? a doctor?

Hey yoyo,

I've never had the pleasure of having the current histo/embryo prof...so I can't comment on that one. However, the fella that teaches patient doctor 1 is a good guy. His name is the color of healthy grass and rhymes with spleen...if you catch my drift. He's an ER doc from what I've gathered...he makes class interesting and fun. I had a good experience with him in patient docotor 1. Hope this helps...take care!
