A friend of mine attends a college in NY and DID NOT hear about SMU b/c of the lack of advertisement at his school. My friend stated that classmates of hers were also interested in attending SMU after getting more info from the website.
Is there a way to put up flyers at the school.
Sorry for posting here but I didnt have SMu-info 's email adress off hand
Can SMU-info please answer this request.

Send me an email at egoodbread@smucaymann.com and let me know their school, I'll be happy to get some info out to them.
I agree SMU should do more advertising. It definately could help keep classes full. It is the best opportunity outside of the big three. Maybe outside of AUC and SGU because Ross is such a terrible place to live. If SMU had Cali it could be #1. That is the only reason i decided not to go there. SMU's only achilles heal is Cali.

and the fact its a very new school without a lot of licensed grads.....but yes I agree it has great potential

Nope. 180+ for this semester's class alone. Somebody's doing a darn good job recruiting. Where is JP Yates? Anyone heard from him lately? I was hoping to meet him when I got here...
Usually I agree with th ol'man but I think he is not looking at the complete picture. They could waitlist and move people to Jan. and May. You could always get a fuller class. You probably agree with that ol'man.

My friend attends Brooklyn College and was describing SMU to her friends who never heard of it but instead heard fo SJU, MUA, SGU and ROSS all of whom have advertisement at Brooklyn college.
Considering that SMU has NY approval I am surprised they arent more aggressively advertising in school campuses there.
Smu-info do you plan on adressing this situation ?
I am familiar with brooklyn college b/c I grew up living near by. The total enrollment at the school is about 15,000 students.
Brooklyn college is well recognized in NY for their science departments which are very challenging which in turn prepares their students very well for masters, Phd courses, dental and medical schools.
I think you should look into advertising at this school.

Okay. They could become more selective. And if they build the new building that is in the planning, then they could take larger classes. And from what I have heard they are becoming more selective. Although I know I'll get flamed for saying so, personally, I'd like to see them require the MCAT. Not require a minimum score just yet, but require incoming students to have taken it.
I agree about the MCAT however what about those who are older (Chiropractors, acupuncturists, podiatrists) who want to become doctors how could you push them aside just b/c they havent taken the MCAT.
Either way I think SMU needs to do a better job advertising.

Well, AUC, SGU, and Ross (now) does. As well as all American medical schools. And as I said, do like Ross did at first. Don't make the score a deciding factor, just require that it be taken. Anyone can take the exam, and get an idea of where they stand. I know it showed me where my major weaknesses were. Us it initially as a kind of diagnostic tool.
And require it before Saba does.
I agree with the ol' man. Requiring MCAT scores makes a school more credible. If SMU builds the permanent school, gets Cali and raises its standards it will blow SGU and the others right out of the Carib.. The potential is there, only time will tell.
Saba is a pit. I did not want to get on the subject of Saba but I feel SMU is superior to Saba at this time. They should require the MCAT however. There should be no easy road into medical school. Most people who went into the above professions did not feel comfortable with their abilites and settled for second best. SMU wants to be the best and should start increasing their standards. Require it be taken with no minimum cutoff initially and raise the standards from there.

Ditto on requiring it, then raising the standards. Although I don't know about Saba being a pit. I was at MUA-Nevis, and the living conditions there do leave quite a bit to be desired.

I agree that the MCAT should become a requirement. I'm sure it will eventually become a requirement.

I agree that the MCAT should be a requirment and I'm sure that at some point it will. Just like SGU, AUC, and Ross it eventually became a requirement and it will at SMU and SABA. Truely though, I don't believe it's a good indication of how your going to do in medical school. Like Skidoc stated in a previous post, the stuff we learn in medical school is all very interesting and we all enjoy what we are doing (or we should) however, for me, general chemistry and physics could both be done with FOREVER! I enjoyed both Organic Chem and Biology and those sections carried me on the MCAT. Hopefully I'll never have to deal with physics again.

there is actually a correlation with the mcat and med school.....there is also correlation as to how you don on the mcat and how you'll do on the usmle bc the main factor being a standardized test.....yes there are outliers but a lot fo people fit
