Hi everyone. I got my approval this morning for May '06!!! I just wanted to provide everyone with some insight into my experience. First I want to thank everyone who posts here for all the help they have been over the past several months.
I sent my application through the mail from Toronto July 25th. I was e-mailed on Aug 1 confirming it was complete and under review. On the 8th I was called for an interview for Aug 19th, and I just recieved my approval letter today Aug 29th. The process was very fast.
There is so much information on what questions are asked in the interview, so I don't have much to add in that respect, however I have to say my best advice is to make your personal statment as thorough as possible. Talk about why you want to pursue medicine, what in your life prepared you for this experience or influenced your decision. Explain (honestly) what caused any bad grades you may have received. Talk a little about the island. In my letter I approached it as if I was anticipating the interview questions and this was very successful. There was very little for them to ask me because they knew it all, in fact my interview only ran 20min, including my questions to them.
My letter was 2 pages single spaced, but covered everything, I even told them how I intended to pay, which of course is important.
For everyone with an interview coming I want to tell you to relax and that getting the interview means you are 90% of the way there, you just need to keep it together, be confident and honest in your answers. You should know when its done if you are in or not.
Ok...so I am going to leave work now and go celebrate. Thanks again for all the help so far.
