Hotel in St. Maarten near Ferry suggestions

I was hoping someone would have a reccomendation for a hotel in St. Maarten near the Ferry dock. I have to stay for one night in St. Maarten before I head to Saba, and wanted a cheap, clean suggestion. Thanks!

If you want to be near the ferry then don't stay at Summit or Sonesta Maho. However, all of these hotels are fairly close and you could get to the ferry easily via taxi.

I called aqua mania who runs the ferry and they said that they are located at the Pelican Bay Resort. I got a studio room for $94. I booked my room yesterday for September 2.

if I was a betting man.... I'd say around 15 bucks... but then again, I never took the taxi when I lived in SXM for 20 months. :P

You can always haggle with the taxi drivers and shop around. Or just rent a damn car for 25-30 bucks for the entire day(also requires haggling at airport).

$15 is the going rate for taxi, in my experience (same on Saba).
I've gotten $90/night at The Caravanserai hotel by the airport.
A very nice hotel is Mary's Boon, also by the airport. It doesn't look like much on the outside but the rooms are awesome. You can get a suite with a kitchenette there for $120/night, a good deal if you are sharing a room with others.

Be sure to call and tell hotels you are a medical student at Saba, typically you get $6-10 discount on the regular rates.

Rental cars run $45 a day for a toyota or similiar compact car on St. Martin. (If someone knows of a reliable car rental cheaper than this, please let me know!)
Oh, yeah, before I forget...the guy that owns Matthew dorm rents cars for $50 a day here on Saba. I could have used that info when I first got here.
