Rossies used to be able to do Surgery core here, but it now is mainly for SABA students (and possible other carib schools). I don't know of any Ross students who've done rotations here lately.

Union has an acgme approved internal medicine rotation but does Ross have any agreement with the hospital so students can do it??

On a list that i received from the Clinical department less then a week ago it listed only Internal Medicine and Surgery as electives at Union Memorial. The list didn't list any core rotations at Union Memorial.

Thanks singer, but that's confusing to me. How can internal and surgery be electives. I thought Internal and surgery are core rotations.

I believe that what is meant by internal medicine electives are those electives under medicine on the Ross clinical listing. You are required to take at least 8 weeks of Medicine electives and 4 weeks of surgery electives. I also believe that if the Internal Medicine Core rotation is ACGME then all the Medicine electives are also ACGME. If anyone can let me know if this is correct it would be appreciated.

Oh yeah I see what you're saying. I don't think that it's automatic that if your Internal medicine core is ACGME then your electives are too, but I'm not sure.
You can look the electives up on the ACGME website just like the cores. For example if you look hemo or gastro, which are a internal electives, they are not listed as being ACGME accredited.....

All I can say is that the information from Dr. Perri indicated that the electives under an ACGME Core rotation would be ACGME but not necessarily listed on the ACGME site. She indicated only electives that have fellowships would be listed on the ACGME site. If you know anything different please let us know. Call up your advisor and see what she/he says.

Yes, it's true that if the IM/Surg/..... core is ACGME approved, then the electives at that hospital are also approved. Reasoning is that medicine/surgery residents also rotate through those electives sometime during their resident years therefore making them acgme approved. make sense?

You can also do electives at Maryland General (down the street from Union Memorial) since you'll be in the area.

Okay, so electives will be ACGME approved but the cores will have to be ACGME on their own, correct?

So if a Ross affiliate has IM as ACGME approved then Surgery would not count as ACGME approved...Please correct me if I am wrong.
