yes, it's accredited. it's affiliated with gwu. you can find it on frieda online.

i'm here at holy cross doing ob/gyn right now. it's only my first week, but i can tell you that it sucks so far. it sounds nice in theory--you rotate through different units (gyn surg, ob clinic, c-section, triage, etc.), but it's not as good as it sounds. it's unorganized, and you just sit on your *** most of the time. from what i hear from the other students who have been here a while, there is no instruction whatsoever, so you don't learn anything.

This is a private hospital and as such you need to get yourself in the way and ask if you can help. You have to be a go-getter at this institution and force them to give instruction otherwise you will get none. Also, ask the nurses for help in getting a chance to workup patients or do something. Nurses have a wealth of knowledge and you might learn more from them that the docs who are more interested in collecting the paycheck for their work. Ironic, isn't it?
Good luck, A_G

I actually learned a lot during my OB/GYN rotation at Holy Cross. Like Anatomy Guy said, you have to be a go-getter to get the most out of this rotation. I think the best part is that you do get the opportunity to rotate through different units each week (I did OB day float, OB night float, clinic, GYN oncology, antepartum, and float float). I was very busy for almost every minute of the day on the OB floor, in GYN oncology (tons of surgery!), and in clinic. However, 2 of my 6 weeks were relatively stress and hassle free, and I welcomed the opportunity to be in the library studying for Step 2. The attendings do not teach...the key is to find the residents who do! One of them (you will know her when you meet her) is the anti-Christ and will make you want to throw yourself off a bridge rather than being around her, however the rest of the residents are great. If you put yourself out there and ask questions, they will teach you and allow you to play a more active role in patient care. If you ask, they will let you sit in the little stool and be the "baby-catcher", which were perhaps some of the greatest experiences of my life.

If you want to go into OB/GYN, I would recommend this rotation. You work directly with residents from George Washington University (located in D.C.) and a recommendation from the program director may give you edge on the other applicants. By the way, the program director has come to lecture at our AICM in Miami for the past couple of semesters.

how far of a drive is it from GWU campus in WA, DC to Holy Cross Hospital? Where should I live if I have no transportation? i.e., what is close to the hospital?

any ideas for a student looking for a 6 wk sublet?? I gotta move to MD from Brooklyn in one weekend, then move back to Brooklyn to start another rotation in one weekend at the end. i'm back to back...good for the sched...sux for the living situation.

help MD natives.
