Hi jeff and ****.

I miss you guys. Hope all are well with family and clinicals. I would appreciate your input regarding some general pictures of cost of living in California, kern medical center and Ohio sites in Canton.

How much does it cost for your one bed room apartment and please let me know other exprenses such as transportations so on. I am looking into Kern or ohio or michigain sites.

Do you think they are overally cheaper than Saint maarten?

Anyway, thanks guys and talk to you soon.

Ken,

I rented a 4 bedroom 3 bath brick ranch house one 3/4 acre lot for a fraction of what I paid in St. Maarten. Food is half the cost-oh how we missed walmart-and I find myself drinking fresh milk more often than I used to because it is affordable $2/gallon non-spoiled vs $5/gallon and only good for 3 days once you open it on SXM.

Just finished my pulmonary subspecialty today and have one week left in my internal medicine rotation. Let me tell you the program is very serious here. From day one you are treated like an intern in many respects. I think this is how they evaluate your ability to learn under pressure etc... The teaching has been excellent and program rigorous (morning report at 7:15am every day there til 5:30-6:00) with 3 long overnight calls and one short call each week till 9pm thru the rotation. For example I saw 15 patients today with a pulmonary critical care specialist.

The program does include a formal CSA exam in order to be evaluated where the program director accompanies you to a patients room watches you perform a history and physical exam. Then you go out of room tell director what tests you would order. He gives you results (patient already evaluated on wards) You then have an hour to organize your thoughts. Then you meet with director and formally present the case over 10 min. This is evaluated as well. Then you have less than 24 hrs to turn in the typed H and P and this is gone over as well as the other aspects of the exam. Just a heads up that exams are never over.

My next rotation is peds for 6 weeks at Aultman. I will keep you posted. Let me know where you are going Ken.

Best wishes!

thanks you gentlemen!

I think we had way overspent in saint maarten. In retrospect, the cash $100 bucks were like nothing especially when we had to pay for those unbeliverbly expensive professors notes daily uutil 3rd semester on the rock, Not to mention the ripping off Apartment rent that we had to pay every month and walked out with nothing at the end. In my opinion, paying 1000 bucks or even more that most us had to pay for housing is not acceptable as we are just a poor students. However, we had no options back then. Also the car lease at marshall motor or at others was unresonably high for a tiny atos which we would even never consider driving in the united states. Atos would be treated as a joke in the states. it was nothing more than a golf cart with car like skin. You can lease a BMW at around slightly here or even same price in Denver Colorado.

saint maarten is probably the most expensive place I ever lived so far.

I am so happy to be home...

**** and Jeff. again thank you.

Ken
