Questions from Prospective New Student from NJ

hey guys,

I keep on hearing about Cayman and Maine campus? How come I don't see Maine on the website?? Do you guys take classes at different campus? What is the deal?

Second, is it easy to get loans for St. Matthews? Do I need to buy a car down there?

The Maine campus information is listed on the website under the Dual Degree Program.

"Through an affiliation with St. Joseph's College of Maine, St. Matthew's students can earn a Master of Science in Health Services Administration (MSHSA) degree from SJC while they are completing the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree with SMU."

SMU offers two loans, both of which are also listed on the website. They are the Teri Loan and the HealthXpress Loan.

SMUInfo just about covered the Maine/Cayman topic, I can throw in some info on the rest.

I'm not sure if it's "easy" to get a loan, most of the students here use the Teri loan progam if they're not self pay students. Although I'm sure it's like other loans, if you have good credit and a cosigner, you should be OK. However, I'm not too knowlegable on loans...maby someone else can help out more here.

As far as the whole car thing goes...you don't NEED a car. Grocery shopping is about 400 yards away. Restraunts are all over the place, don't need a car for this. School is about 2.5 miles from the dorm...so you can easily bike, walk or take the bus. However, alot of people have cars here, so if you choose, you can get a car, but it's certainly not necessary. I walk everywhere here, and I've got in shape doing it!! Great exercise!

hey,

as for the loan question. im right now taking out loans through the Health Xpress Loan service. You can easily quailfy for it if you have a good credit history or if you have a cosigner with good credit.
I belive that Health Xpress is better because your allowed to borrow up to the cost of tuition..including books, fees, transportation, etc etc.
I'm not sure about Terri, but i've read somewhere that with them you can only borrow up to $25,000 annully...which i dont think will cover all the expenses for an entire year of school.

its better to check their website for more info. u can find it on the SMU website under finanical aid.
