I was talking to a couple of my friends who go to US med schools and they were saying that there is one person in the class who is paid to take notes for the rest of the class (in case you miss or something). Also they have their classes taped, which can be watched on the internet at your own pleasure. How do things work at SMU? I was also wondering if people use tape recorders and if you dont, do you think its worth getting one? Last question, what kind of internet connection do the dorms have? THANX!!

It depends on how you like to study and how you learn best. There are a few people that record lectures. However, i dont think you would have time to go back and listen to every lecture on tape. Most teachers notes or powerpoints are sufficient if you miss a class or two. Use a review book like BRS and you'll be fine.

So are lectures available online by video or audio?

Recording the notes for Path 2 (in Maine) can be of great use. Have 5 students tape the lecture and then transcribe between you all. Then have one do a powerpoint. That is what I did and was able to high pass the class.

I believe that when you listen to a lecture and therefore take notes, you actually learn at the same time, but as someone said earlier, it depends how you want and like to learn.

Thats true SG...I learned that in one of my psych courses..I think..
Writing the information ingrains it in memory ... its better than learning passively.

Are you kidding? I graduated from pitt in 2000 and I received an excellent education, especially in the sciences. I went back to see some professors a few months ago and it seems like the school is much better now than it was five years ago, I read in us news or somewhere that it was ranked 66th in the country. The only thing I didn't like was having classes with 250 other students, and the competitiveness.
