Perhaps someone should start a list of places where AUC students have been able to do 4th year electives. Remember, in your 4th year, you can go anywhere you want. You are not limited to the choices offered through AUC. Although my info is probably outdated, these are places that allowed me to rotate as a 4th year student.

University of California - Irvine, Long Beach VA Medical Center
University of Arizona - Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center, Phoenix (need to find a sponsor - just email faculty and ask if they will sponsor you)
Henry Ford Hospital - Detroit
St. Anthony Hospital - Chicago, IL (place was kinda dumpy)
Alameda County Medical Center, Oakland, CA

Good luck!

How did you find these places? Did Meas provide you with the info?

Like rrod said, MEAS will give you a packet that includes several places that have taken AUC students for electives before. In my situation, my husband was looking to do electives in the place he'd like to settle down so they list didn't have a ton of options for us. I started off by looking at the following websites.

ACGME RESIDENCY PROGRAMS

http://www.acgme.org/adspublic/ (http://www.acgme.org/adspublic/)

FREIDA (Fellowship & Residency Electronic Interactive Database)

http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/2997.html (http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/2997.html)

Yes, both of these sites give info on Residency programs, but it's nice to do electives in places that have residency programs in the areas you're interested in (some States are more strict and require this for licensure). Anyway, once I found the places that had programs in the areas my husband was interested in, I went to the individual websites to see what their policies were regarding visiting student electives. It's important to find out whether or not a site will allow non-LCME students (i.e.- foreign students). Some websites tell you, others you will need to contact. It's important to be straight up about the fact that you're from AUC, otherwise you'll be wasting your time. Once I found sites that allowed non-LCME students, I got applications, filled them out, sent them to MEAS for processing, then they send them out for you. You should start this process once you've settled into your core clinicals, as many schools have early deadlines. MEAS will tell you to not start sending applications until 6-months prior to the rotation you want, but this may be too late for several sites. For others you will need to wait until they fill spots with local medical students, etc., before they will let you apply.
