Staying hotel while looking for housing

Do most students who choose not to live in the dorms stay in hotels while looking for housing? I'm guessing they must have to.... if that's the case, which hotels do they usually stay in? Do they get discounted rates?

The courtyard marriott will give you a discounted rate...comes out to 80CI or 100$ US a nite... yeah that's the discounted rate (still expensive i know). Be sure to have your SMU id or something saying youre an SMU student just in case.

I'm not on the island now, but I dont know if other hotels give such discounts?Anybody else know of any?

You can do that but for what you pay one week at a hotel would be the cost of a month of rent.
