Hi, folks!! This forum has been developed in an effort to continue the preservation of information about Ross clinical sites in the U.S. I will try to transfer as much info to it as possible from the "sticky" previously developed for the same purpose. If new threads are posted on the Ross Forum about the topic, I will transfer them to here to the appropriate thread. We can keep individual threads about each clinical site, and it will hopefully aid you in knowing a little more about each hospital. I will moderate the sub-forum, so keep it clean and follow the TOS. :)

Best wishes to all of you!!
Dru

Dru:

Good idea on the sub-forum for clinicals. The list from Ross has the affiliated hospitals but it would be nice if they listed which core clinical rotations are approved by Ross incase a student wants to request a particular rotation. Also if they could indicate on the list which rotations are ACGMe and which are DO that would also be very helpful. It seems that Ross should have this information but refuse to divulge it publicly. Sometimes trying to find the info on the ACGME site becomes difficult.

Here are 2 additional hospitals in the Baltimore, MD area:

Maryland General Hospital: able to do electives there, easy scheduling, ask Ross for the contact # for the medical education co-ordinator.

Shepherd Pratt: most likely able to do a Psyche Elective here.

This would be a good question to ask Dr. Perry, who is charge of clinical education. After you get your answer, please post on the Riverside thread. Thanks.

Central Maine Medical Center, used by Dartmouth and UVM, are willing and able to accept Ross students for clerkships and electives. They have an ACGME Family Practice program. They not only offer core FP but electives in just about every specialty, have a new Heart and Vascular Institute, offer free/low cost housing, free parking and meals while on duty. Lewiston, Maine is a little off the beaten track but the people are friendly, the working environment is good and, if you like lakes and mountains, it is a very cool place.

Look at their website: http://www.cmmc.org/emp-familypractice.html and/or contact your clinical advisor about the clerkship.

Hi all. I have a problem with the way Ross handles the clinicals. I know they are busy, but not that busy. I had to find all my own sites, yes, they did give me a few numbers to call.

If you need help and want to come the Chicago let me know I will pass what I have learned. My email is rosshardroad@yahoo.com.

I will make sure you are not one of the crazy kids who have been accessing our sites. If your from Ross you will be able to answer my questions about the island. And you can ask away as well. Best to you all.

Do you really have to travel to several clinical sites to complete rotations? After completing the intro in Miami, can you finish up at one site/state/city?

Dru

Gizmo,
I think it all depends on what you want. There are several sites that offer most or all of the core and elective rotations. There is an advantage of practicing in several different institutions, as it will make you more well-rounded. I know if you go to brooklyn, you can get your cores and electives between Kings County and Wycoff, but it might do you good to be able to go to your home state and do somthing, too. The advantage of staying in one area is that you are able to obtain a more "long-term" lease for more than 12 months, and this will lower your rent. At any rate, you need to determine what is right for you and share that with your clinical advisor, so they can plan your path WITH you. Find out early on what mode of communication your advisor prefers...some seem to gravitate to emails and some to the phone.

Hi, I am the accepted student od Ross University School of Medicine. I just wanted to know is that true not everyone who goes Ross can do the rotation in the U.S., school might send students to England or other places. At the end the U.S. does not acknowlegde tose who did not do rotation in the U.S.. So those people are stuck outside of the U.S. I heard this from one of my friends, whose friend's son went to Ross and stuck in England.

Thanks

Dru

My understanding is that UK hospitals are ACGME, so they should be recognized as such. I don't understand how a Ross grad can be "stuck" in England. Each state in the US has their own game plan for licensure, so if you plan to do any clinical rotations in the UK, it would make sense to check with the state that you wish to be licensed in and see if it is OK. Doing a clinical in England would not prevent you from coming back to the US, but it may preclude licensure in a particular state.

Hi all!! I continue to receive positive feed-back regarding the Ross Clinical Sub-Forum. I have updated it and made some changes.

I have deleted several threads regarding sites that are no longer used by Ross. They include:
1. Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow
2. Mary Immaculate Hospital in Far Rockaway
3. Shepherd Pratt
4. Commanche Hospital in Oklahoma

I have added the following sites, as they are now listed on the RUSM website as new clinical sites:
1. Greater Miami Health Education and Training Centers in South Miami
2. North General Hospital in New York

I accidentally had two threads for Brookdale in New York, so I have merged the information on the two threads to form one.

Please DO continue to post information on the various sites including:
* which core or elective you completed at the site
* your opinion of the site and experience
* typical hours and amount of shift rotation &/or on-call requirements
* suggestions for safe places to live near the individual site

DO NOT start threads regarding clinical sites on the general Ross Forum, or they will be locked and linked to the sub-forum. Preserving posts about clinical sites on the sub-forum prevents your important information from being buried or lost.

DO NOT post useless or unrelated information or questions, such as "how do I transfer to Ross?" If you have rental leads or household goods to sell, please use the Ross Classified Sub-Forum.

Thanks for your continued understanding and support! Best of luck as you search for and complete your clinical clerkships.

Can we start a discussion that brings together in one place, your votes on which rotations are the best for their respective disciplines ?

This dicussion should only be about why you thought their quality of education and/or experience was among the best that Ross can offer.

This dicussion should not be about complaining about bad rotations. There's plenty of room in the other threads for that. Only talk about the ones you think, IYHO, is the best rotation for that subject.

This dicussion should not be about daily living details such as parking, tolls, housing, where you show up for the first day, places to eat, etc.

This discussion should try not to talk about hospitals Ross no longer has. I know that's difficult since we lose them regularly. But at least don't say "I loved my XXX rotation at Jamaica Hosp. 2 years ago because we got to do stuff that no one is allowed to do anymore such as:..."

I have started 2 test threads to vote for the best rotations. So far I put up ones for IM and Surgery.

As far as background checks, (please correct me if I am wrong), I don't think misdemenors count, especially if they were long ago.

To kind of answer my own question...I went to the hospital's website and they only have FP residency. So I assume you could only do FP rotation there. Their current residents include a lot of FMG's including a Ross, Saba, and St. Matt's.

Hey guys,

I have a question regarding the electives. I know we have to do Green Book core rotations to be licensed in most states. Is it the same case with electives or the electives don’t matter whether they are green book or not? I am planning on going into IM right now and the hospital I am doing my IM right now they offer Green Book IM core rotation but their Sub-I electives like Cardiology, GI, Nephrology etc. are not green book….so if I do my electives there…is it going to be okay?? I plan on practicing in NY/NJ area and I checked the medical board websites….but didn’t find anything regarding the electives being green book or not to be licensed in NY/NJ area. If anyone can answer this question or direct me to the specific website would be a great help. Thank you.

actually it is, its against TOS

nor is it a big deal which school the poster is at;

it can make a difference, while yes, we will all be caribbean grads, the places we do our clinical clerkships are not the same (there is some overlap) and giving information about a hospital where sgu students rotate is not at all helpful to a saba student (and vice versa)

at the end of the day we are all carib med schools and are in similar situations.

thanks!

and again this is not a new topic- there are many threads on this topic, many actually active at this moment. For a general question like this you should do a search to see if you can get an answer, then when you have more specific question, then post a question- you will get a better response (note no one else has responsed to this, and his other numerous posts, -there is a reason why).

Yes, that is true but Rokshana, I didn't ask about information on a particular hospital sgu/saba students rotate at. I asked a question that applies to all the caribbean grads regardless of if the student is going to either sgu/ross/saba/auc/smu etc.

"and again this is not a new topic- there are many threads on this topic, many actually active at this moment. Sorry, I didn't know we were not permitted to post multiple "same post" on different school forums. I thought I would get an answer from whoever saw it first in whichever forum they visit the most whether it be sgu/auc/saba/ross/smu forum since not everyone goes thru every single school forum. Stephew took out the other posts and left this and let me know about the policy. So rokshana, if she took out the other posts then how would I get a reply from anyone from those posts-This is in reply to your last sentence above.

Rokshana, instead of wasting your time writing all that you could've just answered my question or didn't have to say anything. If you don't want to reply then don't reply let others do it. And yes, for your info Juni has answered my question with one line. He didn't make a big deal about this.

Anyway, thanks pinksophistication for the support. And this is what I got from Juni

your a newbie- which is why i didn't make a big point about TOS- figured you would get a pm from one of the mods about it- i only pointed it out when another new person thought it wasn't a big deal.

again, since you are new i didn't make a big note to you about asking general questions about topics that have been (or currently are) being discussed on vmd. Before you start berating people about not being nice- you need to learn something about the culture here on vmd. Many of us here are happy to help, but get a bit tired of people who don't want to do even a little bit of work to get the answer to their question. If you had just done a search for green book you would have found

Just thought I'd share something I found out recently...mainly as a good example of how important it is to check state requirements EARLY on in this whole process. For anyone contemplating practicing in Virginia, please note that ALL clinical rotations, both core and elective, must be done in hospitals that have ACGME residencies in that particular specialty. For example, if you do a rads elective, it better be at a hospital with a rads residency program. Ditto with the other specialty areas. Just an example and an FYI.

in the same city, possible.. in the same hospital, unlikely considering there are very few hospitals that offer all cores and electives...maybe if it was Wyckoff, but even at Wyckoff they don't offer psych.

Question about GREENBOOK Rotations. What if a rotation that I am doing lets say Pediatrics is not accredited at a particular hospital but the family medicine residency is and the pediatric rotation that I do falls under the umbrella of family medicine. Can that pediatrics rotation be considered Greenbook.

As well lets say the pediatrics rotation is not greenbook, how can that rotation have a negative impact on my career in the future. Please let me know, because I am being sent to a rotation which has only family medicine Accreditation but apparently pediatrics rotations are also done there. Thanks....

I plan to apply for internel med or surgery residency.
