Smu Losing Nyc Sites???

I just found out that bcuz of SMU not making enough of profits from the NYC hospitals, so SMU lost all of the NYC HOSPITALS!!!

WHY THIS SCHOOL IS PRO-PROFITS? NOT PRO-STUDENTS???

STUDENTS' BENEIFITS SHOULD ALWAYS BE THEIR FIRST PRIORITY!!

IF STUDENTS ARE DOING WELL AND ARE BENEFITED, SMU WILL BE BENEIFITED TOO!! WHAT IS IT THAT THIS SCHOOL DOES NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT?!

I BELIEVE THERE ARE TONS OF PEOPLE THAT ARE PLANNING ON GOING TO NYC TO DO THEIR ROTATIONS. SHOULDNT WE ALL FITE FOR OUR RIGHTS?!

PLEASE LET THE HEAD OF THE SCHOOL KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND THAT THEY NEED TO LISTEN TO THEIR STUDENTS BEFORE THEY MAKE ANY BIG DECISION!!

To the last of my knowledge, our clinical sites in NY were expending to be THE major clinical site for SMU. I am not sure where you got that news from, but I would check your sources if I were you.

Not only untrue, but so easy to check. And what profits? We don't make money off of hospitals.

One thing FOR SURE is that SMU would NEVER lose NYC sites... they are expanding on

One thing you have to keep in mind is people come on value MD and say whatever it is they want to say. Just because someone "APPEARS" genuine in their conversation has no merrit to it at all. The best thing to do is always research and call the proper people before getting all stressed out. As for SMU loosing NY........ I don't think that will happen anytime soon. At this time SMU is expanding in NY and trying to INCREASE the number of clinical spots not loose them.

See this is why people should choose SGU over SMU. This kind of stuff would drive me crazy. It is better to go to the more established school and bypass this nonsense if at all possible. Atleast the fate of the foundation of your medical career is more in your hands. This is the growing pains associated with a school like SMU. Do you ever hear about SGU losing their sites? SMU did prolong the CAli thing too. They might have gotten a rotten deal but who really knows the truth. If you have to go to the carribbean you should go somewhere (if academically possible) where you can minimize these things from happening. All of those who chose SMU over SGU, Good Luck!

I too am about to enter clinicals.. and am aware that people are probably not being assigned there this term.. but it's not because we are loosing NYC.. it's probably b/c there are not spots open right now..

Regarding SGU.. unless you are speaking from personal experience don't make such vast overarching comments. I have experience with SGU.. and I am aware that some of there students were given temporary assignments for rotations.. and as they have recently negotiated with 2 new NYC hospitals.. some students may be displaced from their original assignment purely by the schools choice .. so no your fate is not sealed anywhere you are..
Don't be shocked b/c a university is trying to accomadate their students as best possible under a process of constant improvement.

The one thing you need to realize.. is that's life.. things change..accept it and move on!

Let's not get into the SGU vs. SMU discussion. In either case, it seems to be that anytime someone posts something really bad about a school (like losing clinical sites or something to that nature), that person is usually a new user or have very little posts. Hmmmm....is this a clue about the validity of their claims? If it was me, I wouldn't be so quick to believe them. Check with the proper officials regarding the issue before torturing yourself to the anxiety that will surely come if you believe any claims that are made. Ciao.

People attack other people when they are scared. Who knows if what you are telling is true but people are scared. They have to justify to themselves that their school is good. I hope what you are saying is not true but atleast you are trying to get some legit answers. SMU officials use this forum as a vehicle for answering student concerns. If you email the school with questions you do not always get answers and Ahmet I do speak from experience. They knew along time before the California report but never let anyone know so stop attacking loveocean. This person is just trying to bring up a legit issue. We need each other to keep all the Carib's honest.

yes every time one of the 1,000 hears some rumor the president of the school should address it..and you think this is rational? if he were to do that he'd spend 24/7 sending memos out. with any school take whatever you hear from one person and get feedback from a few more students....also how about a little tact when you post? instead of yelling it out like gospel truth in bold letters why not just ask if anyone has heard about X rumor without demaning that the board of trustees gets back to you...

SMU isnt losing NY. We're in the process of GAINING more sites in NY.

The only site where we're in doubt would be Atlanta Medical Center. But that applies to all the foreign medical students, not only SMU. Atlanta Med Center is nice though...I'd hate to not have it. Supposed to find out sometime soon what's going to happen.

We pay decent amount of money to this school, and they are paid handsomely (according to dr. N). So Each one of us reserve the Rite to know the TRUTH of Everything.

I still remember the California issue...

just hope that they are making fast and GOOD progress, dont just tell us that they are making progress, and not telling us where we are rite now, and how much the school has done, so that will impress CA, and just in hope that CA will be really impressed and recognize this school SOON!
And dont just tell us that CA made a lot of mistakes in its report, cuz seriously we students dont know if those are TRUE or not, all we got were from the so called "school official" and kept telling us the SAME certain mistake that CA board made...

Clinical sites issue is a very serious issue, it's NOT just any tiny rumor. It's not cool to do personal attacks and it's also not cool to just make some deals behind the closing door and not letting the students know till the very last min?!

Hi. SMU is an excellent school, and it is going to continue to improve. We are going to continue to grow in NY and the rest of the country for that matter, including California eventually. Regarding SGU: if SGU is so great, then go. Please do not knock our school. Like I have already posted, we will be happy to compete with SGU any day. Meanwhile, SMU will continue to grow. We have an excellent fall class coming in, and the future looks fantastic! Best wishes!

That's why you must be sure that he is not preaching alone in the desert. By doing so, he almost gave a heart attack to a million of us reading this forum.

Some folks will ignore the essential in order to make fickle comments that will eventually make themselves look stupid.
Therefore, they just preach at the mercy of anyone who gives them attention they are meritless of anyway.

Even if theres a person out there who did not get NY...the only plausible explanation is that enough spots werent available in NYC at that particular time.

As for those who think going to SGU will guarantee them clinicals in any particular state or their home state...then you are really mistaken.
Because I know people at SGU who begged and pleaded to do clinicals in NJ but they were assigned NY..and only a few were selected for NJ clinicals going on right now.
Canadians were given jersey clinicals while people from tristate area were not.

So good luck to you if you will be doing clinicals in SGU ;)

I am neither concerned nor scared about SMU losing any clinicals,
because this school has consistently grown in every field.

It seems whenever people can't find anything ..they just throw in the Cali

I know for a fact from talking to lots of SGU folks that not only many didn't get rotations in NY, but had to travel to UK to complete many reqs, and not by choice. Mind you, SGU was over 25 y.o. back then, and a "Harvard of the Caribbean", and Ross was already a "Yale in the middle of the dirt road." But post like the one from OP are enough to bring fear and doubt into the minds of many. Please verify with the school before you posts. But if you don't get straight answers, and only the run around, then I agree a forum like this would be a perfect tool to raise an issue. Given the situation with Ca, I think SMU will hold on to NY very,very tight. So, don't let your hearts be troubled!

Hey. Looks like SMU, I got rejected by AUC and have not heard form Ross. You're right about defending that school; I learned a great lesson. Thank you. I was just trying to make the best out of an awful situation. I moved on. Looking forward to the stress; it is soooo much more fun to play when there is something on the line! also you bring up another point by saying you were trying to make the best of it...when one student throws glowing remarks about a place in the face of countless other bad experiences it warrants closer attention since maybe that person is only trying to make the best of it or getting tuition discounts etc...would you agree?

Hi. Go to the school and check it out before you decide to attend. If you cannot afford it, make sure it is AUC, Ross, St. George's, SABA, or St. Matthew's. Otherwise, don't apply. And finally, how could I disagree with you rrod? Last I heard, you're the man!
