Fifth Semester Program at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation

St. Christopher’s College of Medicine (SCCM) is pleased to announce an association with The Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF), Cleveland, Ohio.

Beginning September 2005, SCCM students who are citizens of the United States and Canada will have the opportunity to complete the fifth semester of the basic science program at the CCF.

International students who qualify for a US Visa may also be considered for this exciting opportunity.

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation is one of America’s formidable hospital corporations. With a brilliant staff of physicians, 3,200 hospital beds and ACGME accreditation, the Foundation offers some of the finest undergraduate and post-graduate training opportunities.

The first ten weeks of the fifth semester program will entail the courses, Introduction to Clinical (ICM) and Physical Diagnosis (PD). These courses will be taught by the Departments of Medicine and Surgery from the Foundation.

The fifth semester program concludes with a 5 week KAPLAN review for USMLE Step One, also hosted in Cleveland.

Students who successfully complete Step One may be credentialed to begin core clinical clerkships with the CCF, based on availability.

The opportunity to train in the fifth semester basic science program at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation is viewed as a “milestone development for international medical education.”

Why post this like it's new? We posted this about 5 months ago here?
The only thing I wonder about is Kaplan and the UK students.
Can there, will there be a 5th in England? We were told there would be a 5th in England Too.

Spoke with Mr. B*** today (here for the white coat ceremony) he mentioned the hospital in London, a UK teaching (NHS) hospital. I just can't remember the name of the hospital. Hopefully, someone will remember there were about five of us students with him.

I have to mention, as a disclaimer, that 5th semester will NOT be held at the main cleveland clinic hospital itself. It will be held at another affiliate hospital nearby that is part of the CCF. This needs to be made CLEAR.

The housing the college arranged for us was at the Mariott Hotel and it was $60US /day. The current 4th semester class has found alternative arrangements, which could potentially suit following semesters.

Yo -

So what's the news on the Cleveland Clinic? How's the education, the living arrangements, the patient contact, and the USMLE prep?

For everyone near Cleveland, check out Sushi Rock (upscale restaurant), Howl at the Moon (dueling piano bar), Fado (restaurant/bar), Panini's (restaurant/bar), The Blind Pig (live music), Basement (club), Funky Buddha (club), Spy Bar (club), and The Velvet Dog (club). There are also a couple of places putting on cabaret-style shows down there that are pretty cool.

I'll be posting in detail over the weekend, but just a quick note to say things are going really well here in Cleveland. The hospital experience/instruction so far is excellent, and we're adjusting just fine - places to avoid, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions!
