View Full Version : Internal Medicine in Raritan Medical Center
Guys, need your honest input here.
Has anyone had any experience with Raritan Medical Center in Perth Amboy New Jersey?
Has anyone rotated through there for Internal Medicine?
What is the program like? Is there a good teaching atmosphere? Do you really learn? Are they serious about teaching?
Any info at all?
Thank you guys,

Raritan Bay is located in Perth Amboy New Jersey which is accessable to Staten Island New York by the Outerbridge Crossing and then to Brookklyn by the Verizano Bridge. The hospiatal is actually affiliated with UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson which is the state subsidized New Jersey Medical school.
The big New York Hospitals probably get more gun shot victims, polce killings, etc and I guess if that is the type of hospital you want to work in go to NEw York. The resident to student ratio at Raritan bay is 3 or 2 to 1 which allows for alot of hands on training including write-ups. Many 12 hour days. If you have a car you can get to the Jersey shore beaches very easily and in an hour you can get to the Casinos in Atlantic City to win your tuition at the Black Jack tables.
If you live close by in Jersey it is definitely a good choice.
Good luck with your choice.
I have linked this thread to the sticky, US Ross Clinicals.
This will prevent info from getting buried.

Hope everybody is well.
I am currently doing the IM rotation in Raritan Bay Med Ctr (started aug 1st).
Essentially, it is an excellent teaching Hospital. Everyone that I have encountered are welcoming and helpful. All residents and attendings are very approachable and questions are definitely welcomed. They like to see that you want to learn. The resident that I follow is excellent. He includes me in everything and makes sure that I understand what's going on with each patient.
I would definitely say that the program here is VERY structured. We even have meetings aside to learn IV's, intubation and etc...
So far, I have seen many interesting cases like hepatorenal failures, MIs, cancers, traumas, and the list goes on, and it has only been my first week.
For those looking for an excellent IM rotation, you will definitely like it here in Raritan Bay.
If there is any questions, please feel free to reply to this forum.

Hi Medtekboy and DRU,
Thanks for your reply. Your info has been very helpful. One question I wanted to ask you was: Can one stay in Queens and actually drive or commute to Raritan every day? Is it doable? According to other sources it's about an 50-minute commute from Queens?
I'd appreciate your take on this.
Thank you again for everything...
