how much does off campus housing cost? i realize there is probably a large variety of sizes, locations, and costs, but in general what do most people pay? i have not received my acceptance yet so therefore i also havent received any info on housing (on or off), so i am just trying to get a general idea.

off campus..cheapest for 1 br apt 550-600 /month US.
2 bedrooms apt anywhere between 900-1300/month US
3 BRs around 2000/month

i assume that for the 2 bedroom apts, the cost is total rent, which then would be split up among two people, three people for a three bedroom apt. etc.?

yes, ur assumption is right. the rent does not not electricity. but it does cover most of the other utilities. check with each landlord for details.

You can find cheaper housing than that! Especially if you have a car and do not need to be on the ripoff zone (i.e. on the bus route). One semester I had a 2 bedroom apt by myself at http://www.grenadaexplorer.com/hideaway/ Hideaway Apartments for about 1200EC (OK it was about 8-9 years ago). I dont think he still rents to students, but you can always find other places.

You just have to look - but you may not have time. Your best bet is to stay in-house for a semester and then leave if possible.

the thing is that most of the landlords jacked up their rent due to Ivan and stuff.

Especially after Ivan, the rents have definitely gone up, up, up. The previous poster's figure were more accurate and the new apartments that are going up are even more expensive, 1200-1300 for 2 bedrooms, 1000 for 1 bedrooms. Living further out (past GA or Fort Jeudy) are cheaper, but you have To contend with traffic- I lived next to HidewAys at DeFreitas and it would usually take me 20 minutes to get to school-~3 miles away!!

Wow, defreitas... When were you there? I had a buddy who was staying there, that was prior to their renovation. They were cheap, too. God, you know, memories will kill me. You could walk to the water from those places.

Me n my hubby are gonna live in the apts right outside of the school...its 1 bedroom,a really nice bathroom,a nice kitchen,2 tvs with cable, water for $1000US...then we have electricity to pay for. I know places that we could have gotten for $500 US in lance aux epines but just getting a car and it wasnt the best place...I also know people who lived with like 10 people in huge houses in LAE for like 500US each ...they had like 10 rooms...so thats cool too...

Just this last year- was there during Ivan(and kept our roof to boot!!) and everything was pretty much fixed by the time we started 4th term (broken windows weren't fixed in Jan, but you don't really need windows in Jan so...)- the neighborhood is really good-we pretty much left everything after the hurricane and came back 4 months later with pretty much everything still there(missing a couple of transformers and a fan, but other than that...), though we did have a break-in(the was a rash of them for a couple of weeks and they really liked defreitas- now there is a security guard every night). Lived in #5 and can still walk into the water from the house.
