Do they not give you the white coat? My 1st semester is in May.. so is the ceremony in August when the entire years class has arrived?

The White Coat ceremony takes place at the end of the first week of first semester. For you that would be early May. Guys do need to wear a button down shirt, a tie and a pair of slacks. Girls need to wear a dress or a nice skirt and blouse. The white coat you buy and use in the ceremony is the same coat you will use during your clinicals.

Girls can wear slacks, too, if dresses aren't your thing. Also, buy your white coat before you come and bring it on your carry-on. Your checked baggage may take awhile. Some folks down here bought their white coats at the bookstore but paid far more than they would ordering one in the states. And by the way, if your family is coming with you, they should know that the ceremony is the Friday of the first week of classes, not before classes start.
