Hello,
Does anyone consider studying at medical university in Szczecin, Poland?
Most medical schools in Europe are excellent. Please note that you will have to take a basic language course in medical Polish along with your basic sciences. Also, make sure that you do some of your clinicals in the USA; this will help you a great deal when apply for residency in the US. Most American residency programmes want you to have some US medical experience (whilst in medical school).
Kindest Regards,
Muni

Hello
I visit this forum from time to time so sorry for delay in answering to your questions.
I recommend you and everybody else interested in studying in Szczecin to visit this website created by the students of the English programme in Szczecin.
http://www.pmuweb.com/
Here is also a message board at which you can ask your questions and other useful things connected with being a student at PAM.
Some interesting information you can also find here:
http://student.pam.szczecin.pl/
It's the Polish students' webpage and an English forum.
And first of all, the official website of the university:
http://www.pam.szczecin.pl/index_en.php?cid=190&unroll=190
The fees:

In my opinion the living cost in Szczecin is similar to Poznan and Gdansk, and of course a bit cheaper than in Krakow or Warsaw. It's very close to Germany so you can always go to Berlin and take advantage of seasonal sales :)
As far as I know you won't have to take the PLAB - Poland is a member of the European Union and I've heard that many Polish students after graduation plan to leave Poland and do the internship in Great Britain.
The English programme in Szczecin is 10 years now. So far there is only a 6-year program, but as it is written at the main page "In the coming academic year (2006/2007) Faculty of Dentistry is opening and in future a 4-year English Program designed for students who plan nostrification (academic recognition) of M.D. diploma at the territiory of the United States and Canada will be initiated." You can always contact the dean's office:
http://www.pam.szczecin.pl/index_en.php?cid=701&unroll=190
I've heard that over 100 students began the first year last September. Now it's about 230 students.
And if you're interested in genetics, here is a good research center in this field of medicine - International Hereditary Cancer Center (IHCC has created the largest hereditary cancer databank in the world).

Another thing to mention about my university.
Last year we took part in the anatomy contest "Scapula Aurea" organised at Jagiellonian University in Krakow for medical students of all English programs in Poland. And we won it! We were awarded the first prize both
in the individual and team competitions.
