I am confused. I keep seeing that the american eagle flight from sju to dom is maximum 1 50 lbs bag, but ross sent me papers saying that it is 2--35lbs bags. Please shed some light as I am coming down in august. Thanks

On the Ross website it indicates for American Eagle 2 bags totaling 70lbs. this is the same as when my son wetn in August 2003. He also had a small carryon bag to fit under the seat. the overhead compartment can fit arelly small handbag etc.
His luggage was higher then the amount an if the local US airport checks you through to Dominica, meaning you switch planes in Puerto Rico on the same day you can possibly bring more luggage.
Coming back from Dominica is unlike any American Airport. You can pay off the baggage inspectors that intimidate you in a small room by yourself. My son paid $2 US when he came home for being 30 pounds overweight.
Also, there is a good chance that your luggage to Dominica won't show up until the following day. they can omly fit so much luggage on these old planes.
Good luck

The luggage requirements for American Eagle flights between Puerto Rico and Dominica are:
2 check-in bags that total a maximum of 70 lbs; the lenght + width + height of each check-in bag cannot exceed 62 in.
1 carry-on bag that is a maximum of 40 lbs; the length + width + height of the carry-on bag cannot exceed 45 in.

Unless I am mistaken they changed the allowance earlier this year. If you bought your ticket prior to that date you get the 70lbs but after it will be 50lbs, call the airline to make sure of the date.

American Airlines told me yesterday over the phone it is 70 lbs... now it is 50lbs per 2 bags!!!????? that sux that is nothing... oh well i'm sticking with 70 lbs
Check with your individual airline. Each airline has the ability to assign their own limitations. AA may be 70, but ATA 50. It will be YOUR responsibility to check for yourself, as YOU will be the one at the airport juggling items to get the proper wts in checked and carry-on bags...not to mention that you may have to leave behind something. It is best to be responsible, check for yourself, and use a bathroom scale as you pack. Remember, too...if you are flying different airlines for different stretches, the weight limitation may be different on different stretches. You may be limited to 70 pounds from Iowa to P.R., and then 50 pounds from PR to the rock.

70 pound limit on international flights
50 pound limit on domestic flights
Dominica is outside the United States so the 70 pound limit applies.
Frankly, it all depends on whether or not the person checking your bags knows the difference between Dominica and the Dominican Republic. The "puddle jumpers" that fly into Melville Hall cannot carry as much weight as the full-size jets that fly into the Dominican Republic. They are both "International" but the weight restrictions are different. My kid had overweight luggage "bumped'" twice and I had to ship the suitcases via Amerijet. All the other times the check-in personnell didn't pay attention and checked-in the overweight luggage(which subsequently bumped either a passenger or someone else's luggage from the scheduled American Eagle flight to Dominica). Physics is physics. Don't worry about it, you and your overweight luggage will eventually get there, just not at the same time.
