The latest information from the New Jersey office is that the first time passage rate for the USMLE for Ross students is 60%. I will refrain from mentioning the individuals name who told me this from the New Jersey office because it is not allowed to mention specific names. The reason I post this is because I thin it is important for prospective students to know this information.

I was told in my interview that such statistics are "not known," but that the passing rate is "high." 60% is no where near high, but I'm not going to worry.. just gotta be in the top half of the school, which shouldn't be that hard!

I just spoke to the New Jersey office and was told that Ross University is going to be inserted into harvard's school of medicine's program starting next semester. Our Diploma will read Ross/Harvard school of medicine. I can't disclose who told me this but let's say it's one of the highier up's. Do you see how easy it is for some angry student to spread false info.

all of our schools know that, we all have to send in our usmle report or request a retest. they cook up the numbers any way they want so i would beleive a random inclass poll more than anything the school woudl put out even if it was 87%

the reliability of a user's information can't really be deterimined, but the reliablilty of user can be reasonablly assessed if they have a track records as an honest poster. Healthy skepticism should accompany the post of someone who has no record until they establish themselves. A person can be genuine, or someone looking to spread misinformation or even drum up business for a commercial review course for instance. in the meanwhile, treat users with respect pls.

Quite interesting - a while back you said that you heard the pass rate was 20% and you had "heard it from the horses mouth". You should join CBS news or Sadam Husseins press core.

People sure like to get caught up in numbers. I guess I was just an uninformed consumer when i went down to the island, because I had no idea what the pass rate was back in 2001 and you know what, I probably wouldnt have gived a damn either. The only factor that controls your pass rate is YOU. I will repeat that, its YOU!!!! What other people do on that exam has no bearing on how you will do. I guess the naysayers will counter with the fact that pass rates are good barometers of the quality of education you will receive there and hence your probability of passing the step. Well here is an even better barometer, the THOUSANDS of ross graduates practicing medicine right now. Heck, even I passed all the steps on my first attempt. What was my secret you ask? I studied. How about that!! Amazing huh? Just commit yourself and you wont have to worry about anything other than where you want to do your clinicals.
I am a graduate of Ross university and in a residency. I am not unique, there were thousands before me. If you are dedicated you will one of thousands after me!!! Good luck grasshoppers.

people get a false sense of security that if 80% of the student pass the USMLE they have a better chance of passing step 1 than if its 60%.....they dont take into consideration all the variables such as student caliber.....despite med school classes if you memorize FA and kaplan you can pass step 1

I heard we were all getting superpowers and impenetrable capes.. in our choice of festive colors. (I'm calling "Maroon" so don't even try to get it...)

I also heard that the waiting list for x-ray vision was really long. Damn.

(Of course I can't mention who said it though..)

I do think the numbers mean something. If the rate is high, it could mean that the school prepares you well or they admit a higher amount of quality students. Of course it does depend on the student, however if only 60% pass, there is an issue somewhere.

I totally agree! You can not be worrying about everyone else. Unfortunately in this environment you need only to worry about your own performance. You have to have enough confidence in yourself......weather it's 60 or 50 percent that you will be one of those in that 50 or 60 percent. It really doesn't matter....swimguy is right also, you have to remember we didn't get into med school in the U.S. so let's be honest with ourselves....it's going to be a lesser number. No sweat!

ross is too ashamed to disclose the pass rate, i think. They haven't disclosed it since 1999.

Here's what a NJ staffer told me:

"The AICM program builds upon the Basic Sciences knowledge you have gained and will help in your preparation for the boards rather than hinder it, so you should have no problem continuing the momentum of your education as long as you sit for the Step 1 within 6 months of beginning AICM [which is a requirement of RUSM]. Many years of statistics has provided information that this is the most optimum time to sit for the exam and receive a passing score, most times above a score of 200. "

make what you want of that last line.

I hear Caribbean medical schools are nothing but training 'Kill-bot' factories planting only those who show loyalty to their new world order into clinical spots or they send them to England. This Ross/Harvard merger is just proof that our trained moles and assassins are making progress. I also heard that Ross is being bought out again by McDonalds.

I heard that the current class (SEP 07 graduating class) has a step one pass rate of above 90%.....

I am not sure what the rate is I can only say that my son just started clinicals and he knows people in his classed that passed and people who didn't pass on the first try. whether Ross discloses the passing rate or not I beleive they have to give the rate to the agency in charge of the Stafford Loans and if the rate would be as low as 60% they would discontinue the loans at Ross. Obvoiusly Ross students re still sligible for Stafford Loans so the passingrate definitly can't be 60%. My guess is somewhere around 80-85% of the students pass on their first try.
'
Just my educated guess.

the post about the pass rate being unannounced since 1999 is just plain wrong. my class was announced as about 90% in 2001(when we took step 1), and i know classes prior to us but after 99 had 88 to 92% as announced rates. as gator said, what is the point? Ross admnits people who US schools already determined could not learn the material. these people then get their chance to prove that the US schools were dead wrong. Gator did it. i did too. all of my buddies who stayed at Ross did also. will you? who knows? if you study and have the mental capacity, you will pass. if the US schools were right about you, maybe you wont!

by the way, can i get a "retro-active" harvard/ross diploma?

My kid and every same semester colleague my kid knows passed Step 1 on the first try. There were some in other semesters that failed on the first attempt but passed on the 2nd. Some people are better test takers than others. Clinical and people skills don't necessarily correlate with computer test taking skills. The best President of the United States in the last 100 years (besides Ronnie R) was a "C" student. His Yale commencement speech a couple years ago: "To all you Cum Laude Honor students I say congratulations! To all you "C" students I say.. You too can become President of the United States." God Bless America and God Bless Ross University for the opportunity!
