Have students had more success finding apartments for fall 2005 semester? Where is the best place to look? I am going down to Grand Cayman next week to look for housing for fall?

If you are a first semester student I would highly recommend the dorms. This will give you a chance to get a feel of the island and really decide where would be best for you to live. If you are looking for housing other than the dorms, the best suggestion is to look at the local newspaper for listings. Several realtor companies have also been helpful for students looking to find houses to share.

Hey footdoc,
I'm with SMU info on this one. Stay in the dorms your first semester, towards the middle to end of the semester, start looking for housing then. People here that have looked for places have been sucessful for the most part. Some take longer than others due to preferance, cost...etc... But if you use newspapers and realtors it's easier this way from what I've been told. Don't be worried to use the realtors, you pay them nothing!! It's the landlord that will pay that teriff. Word of mouth is also a good way to learn about places that are available. I'm not even looking and I know several places to look for housing just based on what I've heard in the dorm, and on campus.
Hope this helps you out!! Take care, and enjoy your visit to Cayman! :)

Housing on Cayman Islands is very very expensive. Sharing 1bedroom is about $900- $1100 CI ($1125- $1375 US) plus ultilities.

My husband and I are now thinking that, as suggested by many students and Sebastien when we visited, the dorm is the best bet for the first semester. I was wondering though, do many married couples live in the dorm the first semester? How does that work out?
Also, since I haven't asked in awhile - does anyone know of any female students attending whose husbands came with? Last time I asked nobody knew any. I'm hoping my husband can find some other guys to pal around with. :)
Thanks,
Christen

I would suggest NOT living in the dorm for a married couple. My wife and I lived there for about a month and it was really tough. There aren't a ton of study spots at school, so it helps to study at home. It is very hard to study at home when your spouse is there (especially if it's only one room). If you have to, the dorm will do, but I would try and find your own place.
