Age is probably the number #1 reason I am considering
applying to Carribean Medical Schools. I am 53 right now,
and plan on applying for admission to a 2006 class.

Anyone know if AUC has any problems with students my age?

Thanks,

heart

Hey Heart,

There are numerous non-traditional students here at AUC. Age shouldn't be a problem for you. Good Luck! :D

Good Luck,
AUC is open to nontraditional students and actually encourage it.

How about getting a residency when one is 57 or 58? How do PD's view that? Anyone know?

Hey Heart1st,

I think you should apply. From what I've heard, there are many non-traditional applicants/matriculants in Caribbean schools.

If you want it, and you can accept what your life will be like as a doctor, then I think you should go for it.

I am very good friends with someone who did not begin pursuing a Ph.D. until she was 43. She didn't let her age stop her, and she didn't let anyone else's perception of her position (i.e. "isn't she too old.....") stop her from following her ideals, and her vision.

Just my .02. I just wanted to lend support in case you have any doubts....

Cheers,

Silenthunder

Thanks for all your replies...

43 is old only to those who haven't reached that age...

It's definitely interesting going to school with adults half your age...

I suspect part of the answer, too, is "how old you are" in outlook, perspective, health, etc. There are people I've met who are younger than me, and when I looked at them...they looked old to me...I have some gray hair, but not much in the way of wrinkles :) (OTOH, I've been asked if I qualified for senior rail discount, eligibility age: 65--but I think it's gray-hair shock--a while back I dyed my hair and I was told I looked 10 years -- i.e., early 40s -- younger.)
