View Full Version : Anyone else going INSANE waiting for a decision?

Its only been 2 weeks of waiting and I am seriously losing it. Admissions counsellor said I would maybe find out in 3 days...I don't understand how those who waited for 3 months lasted. Its constantly on my mind.
I seriously pace around all day and feel like screaming all the time...who wants to join my support group?

go out, relax, have some fun. maybe take a trip out of town or something will help you take your mind off it.
i know it's probably easier said than done, but reality is that it's totally out of your control right now, so worrying won't make it any better.
RELAX!

Dude. Stop pacing immediately. Get your car keys. Drive to the nearest store. Pick up two cases of beer. Drive back. Commence drinking. Repeat when out of beer. Stop for food and sleep. Potted plants are acceptable urinals.

what was worse was hanging on waiting for the decision from the last US allo school. Came two days before graduation... oh well... I was in SGU by that time

well you see the thing is that's why I started this thread....it has only been 2 weeks and I this close to losing it. in regards to going to the gym, pushing the limit there, my body is broken running 42 miles a week....and yet still the stress, still the insanity.I can't believe some of you actually waited 3 months. That would suck so much especially if when you finally got news, the news was poopy.

I waited 5 months, but thankfully the news was good. Having backup plans makes the wait a bit more bearable. Good luck.

so what did the admissions counsellor say during the whole 5 months? "your file is still under review?" or did they say the committee hadn't seen it yet because they were filling spots for the class before the one you the applied to.

they keep saying the same thing over and over, that your file is under review or that your file will be decided in a couple of days when it never would.

I was calling about every week and a half or so
O.K.
I have an idea for you. If you have been accepted to another school for January like St. Matthew's call Bayshore and say that you have to decide because St. Matthew's is asking for a deposit or you will lose your seat. Your application will then become priority and you will probably have a decision within a week. This is kind of shady but if your accepted elsewhere it will help speed up the process but of course if it was to a big 3 it would probably speed up the process faster.
Good luck

I wouldn't do that two reasons... 1) it is very unprofessional and in essence you are demanding a decision, remember the school does not have to admit you they owe you nothing at this point expect a decision. So threatening them will do you no good. 2) there are plenty of other applicants willing to fill the seat you are attempting to fill, so the loss of one applicant will do nothing in the long run and won't hurt the schools feelings.
The ONLY thing you can do right now is to sit down and wait. Nothing else is going to do you any good. It's like screaming in a vacuum it won't do you any good. Just give the school a call every-now and then to check up on the status and thats it.

My admissions counselor was actually very nice and didn't tell me a decision was forthcoming when it wasn't. She said that she wasn't sure and she'd see what she could do.
I was in sort of the same situation as mentioned above. I got accepted to another school and had put a deposit down. I let my admissions counselor know that I was accepted elsewhere but reiterated my desire to go to SGU. As long as you're honest about it there's nothing wrong with letting them know you've been accepted elsewhere. I think my willingness to wait for SGU until January (rather than go elsewhere in August) may have helped.

How soon after you told your admissions counsellor about your acceptance at another school, did you find out? And what did they end up telling you for 5 months? that they just weren't looking at your application yet? that must have been so frustrating.

I have been waiting since April and not a word. I called recently, and they said I will probably be contacted in September for further word. I have basically resigned myself to thinking that I have been rejected.

It was probably 4-5 weeks after I told them of my other options. Obviously I didn't give them an ultimatum or anything, I just said it would be nice to know. I was originally an applicant for the August class so I think they were busy filling those seats before they started considering me for January. I think this length of time is definitely the exception rather than the rule, most people find out in the 4-6 weeks they quote you.

the admissions office is really busy right now with the incoming august class. once all of that is settled, i'm sure they getting onto incoming students/applicants for january.
waiting's rough, but as someone else said before, a backup plan makes it a little bit easier too. best of luck to you, and chin up :)

wow that was another 5 month wait....
i haven't heard of many ppl being accepted to the jan class who actually applied to it recently. doesn't seem like adcom is too focussed on ppl like me right now.
Have a set of bells and take my advice. Apparently those who don't agree with my way lost their set of bells. Calling them everyday is much more of a p i a for everyone.
Those that call all the time stick out more like a sore thumb.

everyone will have different exp. so use ur own judgment when u follow someone's advice. ones advice is only based on that person exp and does not necessary hold true to everyone else.

Cotterpin don't stress you'll find out call again the 1st week of sep when they are gearing up for the Jan class... they are finishing the Aug class right now...
Doozer,
That was pretty funny. Anyway Jack is right. They are very busy with getting the August class going. I will tell you that I got in for Jan. with MCAT 22. My grades were above average but sometimes if someone hears that somone got in with a low stat it makes them feel better. Take care and chill. Give a friendly call every 1.5 weeks or so. You can send a weekly email as well.
