Why does it seem that when you address a legitimate academic concern with Dr. P (the Dean at the Maine), he eventually ends-up ridding himself of any accountability by blaming or denegrading the Executive Dean indicating that Dr. G has many great ideas, but that the majority are unproven? Last semester, I remember that any time students had a problem or concern, either Dr. N (bless his heart) or Dr. G would act to resolve the problem or issue immediately or at least would work on the problem/issue and make the students aware of their progress, whereas, at the Maine campus, it seems that Dr. P is afraid of addressing certain problems or making certain decisions for fear that he will rock the boat. Regardless, if the Maine campus is so concerned about professionalism, why do they involve students in their personal politics. Where is the professionalism guys?

Maybe if you stop complaining all the time about the "disparaties" and put that time into studying for your Path 2 exam (which, if you are in Path 2 then your exam should be this morning) then you'd probably have nothing to worry about in your classes.

No worries MD999 because I'm doing just fine, maybe you should dedicate more time to studying and let the big boys answer these questions...you think?

Dr. P is the nicest, down to earth person. He really works hard for us, and I'm disgusted by your personal attack on him. At other schools they wouldn't give a damn if half the class is failing, since that would mean more money for them. He has set a standard, no curves, and I give him credit for standing by his word on the subject (even though I may not agree with him). He really works with the students and for the students. He was open to suggestions, and is very approachable. No school is perfect, each has their own deficiencies. Dr. P wants to make everyone happy which is hard to do.

Juni if you were to kiss up anymore to Dr. P, you may actually be able to taste what he had for breakfast. Don't be so quick to jump on the band wagon. Sure he restructured the Path II class so we cold have a shot at passing, but let's not forget he was the one who lied to us telling us that the exam in Cayman and Maine were the same for the 1st exam. And just to tell you how much of the same our exams were, We had liver, GI, Vascular disease, and Head and neck diseases on the first exam in Maine. The guys in Cayman just not took the exam on 2 of those topics last week.
Word to the wise....Don't be so quick to congratulate someone for correcting a problem they attributed to in the first place. His job was not to screw up, which he did. For him to go back and correct the problem, that doesn't make him worth of any type of praise. That's him doing the job he should have done in the 1st place.
His job is to work hard because he get's paid to do so.....period!!!!

I have not once been at an institution where the students are as immature and unprofessional as the group I am with now. I literally can proudly say that my high school class was better behaved than this group. I am tired of seeing students (whom are going to be physicians) blame others for their problems. Shut the hell up about other peoples mistakes and put your head into your books. I rarely post on this forum anymore because of the ignorance put forward so often. Rarely have I seen a post where the poster has the truth.
Having been a student representative up until recently, I have had the privelage of working with the majority of the administration. Dr. P has ALWAYS been receptive to legitimate and responsible requests of the ELECTED representatives. If you have a problem, you are supposed to approach the student rep that way the administration doesn't have 30 people with the same concern pounding down their doors. It worked for the ICM concerns. It worked for the concerns students had about lab fees after the Ivan relocation. Now I can bet you haven't approached your student rep have you??
Bottom line is that this forum is not going to solve any problems you have with the administration. While I respect the right to free speech, what would be considered slander has become the norm for this forum. I suggest that you do yourself and others a service and take your concern to your student representative. Then maybe your concern, if you even have one, can be addressed.

Yes, thank you for your professionalism, how enlightening! Interesting point about our student reps. As far as the 5th semesters reps, well they really don't care or even want to get involved. Neither one was elected, in fact they only voluntered their names because nobody else would, regardless, they just want to get out of here too. As far as the 4th semester rep...well they canned him. Any other bright ideas? Now back to the point, please refer back to my original post and let the big boys answer. Thank you

I am not being sarcastic, but maybe you should become a Student Rep, since
you are into "politics" and know so much about it.

Not to be sarcastic, but in case you hadn't noticed, I'm outta here after this semester. The only reason why I've been posting is because everyone here has thus far kept hush hush about the ongoings at the Maine campus, which the administration loves because it makes it seem like everything is just fine when it hasn't been. Nothing personal, just my experiences and observations about things that are so obvious and blatantly wrong and which merit some explanation from the big boys, but as you've noticed...nobody has responded...doesn't it make you wonder why?

I recall that Dr. P is not the chair of the Path dept here in Maine. He is the chair of the Pharm. Dr. W is the chair, and makes the test. The issue with Path was resolved already. Dr. G put a mandate that we could only take four exams, instead of the usual eight which caused the problem. Dr. W made an exam with the other path 2 prof, a total of 190 questions. Dr. W used all of the questions, and the Cayman Prof was supposed to do the same but opted to give 60+ questions instead. Dr. W already apologized, the issue is over, didn't you see the breast exam yesterday? Please drop the issue with Path 2 already.
Finally Dr. P allows pharm to give us 10 extra credit questions, worth half a point each. Come on now, what more are you asking? You want him to give you the damn questions? Stop being such babies, this is med school, grow a pair, and study your gluteal off. Stop complaining about small issues that are currently being addressed. By the way I am not a brown nose, I just stand up for what is right. Dr. P deserves some credit for helping the 4th and 5th semester students. He tries to please everyone, but in the end you can't please everyone. Concerning your gross comment I'll address that via PM.

The sad truth is that some people are NEVER going to be satisfied. It's funny how someone can continue going to a school for 5 semesters and hate every min. of it. Why not just leave and go somewhere else? SMU has given each and every one of us a chance to do something that we otherwise would not be able to do. To be honest we all should have to prove ourselfs and if that means harder test then so be it. Take advantage of what has been given to you and stop complaining.

Hi, I was just wondering if there were other students there who might feel the same as you do. If there are, then try grouping your concerns and appoint one of yourselves as the "rep" if there isn't one. And if that doesn't seem to help, then try jumping rank. Go to the next person in authority until you get your answers. Why are you wasting your time on this forum site? Contact the school instead. They have a grievance committee just for these kinds of things. The administrators are VERY understanding. Don't forget, they were all once where you are now. They know what it feels like to have concerns and questions. If you aren't getting the replies you are looking for here, look elsewhere. Arguing about your original post and what people think of it is just plain useless. Make better use of your precious time, please. Good luck.

You are totally right momMD2B ...
What I find really funny is that I dont even understand what birthcontrol is really complaining about!
You talk in very vague terms...and making assumptions about the what Dr. P is thinking or not thinking...! You are making broad assumptions about someones personality when you dont have the information to do so.
EVERY school has a student GOVERNMENT association. Government is all about politics...isnt it!
BUT heres a reality check... you are still in Basic Science...
and it it NEVER as bad as in the workplace at a hospital.
