I am just beginning my application process; I was hoping to be able to apply for the January term, but it sounds like it may be filling up quickly. Should I just apply for the August '06 term instead? Any thoughts? I would be applying for the premed programme.

Apply for January and if it fills up, you'll be rolled over to August. It's a no brainer. If you enter Jan class, you'll get more time off between terms and you'll have more time to study for Step 1.

Ooo, and don't forget that the Jan class is less competitive so it increases your chances of acceptance. (insert sarcasm) All of us Jan termers ride on the short bus.

Thoze awgest turmurs ar so smarte.

Thanks, I think I'll do that. I'm really scrambling to get everything together-- recommendations are the worst. People don't ever seem to understand the term "As Soon As Possible" when it comes to recommendations.

Is it true that the Jan term is less competitive? I actually have had 4 years of gap from my last school, so I'm a little worried. Not a lot, just a little.

don't worry about it as long as you can justify the gaps in between you should be fine
I took a four year gap inbetween HS and college

I'm not sure if the whole Jan term being less competitive is just a myth or actually true. But, in any case, you shouldn't be worried at all. I think many people take some time off before starting med school.

Thanks, guys. I was thinking I was the only one. One more question: does it help to have a lot of recommendations? Should I just send three?

just send the three... that should be sufficent but make sure they are quaility rather than quantity

Haha, I was just kidding about the Jan vs August class comparison. I think it's all ** for the most part. We had the highest histo midterm grade in the history of the school according to Dr. P.

<---Jan termer (vairy smarte) Short bus for the win.

ok guys, muthea says that he is applyng for the PRE-MED program in that acse.no need to worry about being filled up. so that being said...apply whenever u feel comfortable that ur app is strong.
as far as rec letters goes. i sent in only 2 and it was fine. its the quality that counts. no need to badger the ad com with so many rec letters to read. if i was on the ad com and had to read so many rec letters on an applicant...i be getting annoyed and wondering to myself "why does this guy have so much rec letters for? something fishy"

good luck!
