I see everywhere that clocks that are plugged into the sockets slow down 10 minutes per hour in grenada. Does that also go for the SD 110V sockets ?? Arent the SD 110V sockets 60hz ?

I think that is right, that the 110V sockets are just like what we have in the US.

Nope, it's 110V/50hz, (the voltage is stepped down from 220, but that doesn't change the Hz) so US clocks will slow down 10min every hour. You should either get a battery powered travel clock or a 220V/50Hz clock so that it won't run slow.

Are the 220/50 alarm clocks readily available in Grenada for a reasonable price?

dunno about the price. but i would suggest a battery powered one. there will be at times that the power might go out for a bit. dont need the hassle of resetting the clock everytime that happens. also there is a limited amount of outlets in the SD, so unless u are planning to bring an multi-outlet strip thing...why waste an outet on something u could have gotten that runs on battery?

Don't know -- I got mine from Germany. Though I agree with Jaywalk - get a battery powered one, or an electrical one with battery back-up (for not loosing the time as well as the alarm.) I think we had a power outage maybe only once or twice a month (and then for 10 min or less), but it would suck if the power went out when your alarm clock was supposed to be waking you for an exam.
And yes, a power strip/surge protector is a good idea for protecting your computer/other electronics you may want to plug in.

Should I try and get a surge protector here or get one on the island?

they do sell the surge protector here, but they are not high quality, at least the ones i have seen. i would suggest getting one in the states.
