1. Dear all can you please tell me that if this school prepares its students for the usmle (exams I, II ck, cs)? if yes, is it a seperate course or included with the tuition?
2. Do they actually place you in the us for clinical rotations or you have to find it your self and how are the classes attended in the 3-4th yr. with actual teachers or TAs or books?
3. Do you actually have to repeat the whole semester if you unfortunately fail one class?
4. What is the residency procedure. does school helps you with it?
thank you very much for your time and advice in advance.

The best preparation for the USMLE should be the classes you take from 1st through 5th semester. Many students choose to take a review program, but that is on their own -- not included.
Ross has a clinical department that places you in your clerkships.
Like other medical schools, there aren't "classes" in 3rd and 4th year. These two years are on the job training. You may have conferences or lectures at your clinical site.
Residency procedure is like anywhere else. You apply and match on your own. The University helps you with a Deans letter, instructions on how to apply, etc.
As for the answer to your question about failing a class, this answer is included on the Ross website:
What happens if I fail a course?
If students fail a course, they will have to repeat that course and any course taken during the same semester in which they achieved a low C. If they failed a course and received a high C or better in their remaining courses, they will have to repeat the failed course and take an elective course(s) such that total credit hours for the semester are 10 or greater. In either case, the student will pay only for the previously failed course.
Hope that helps,
M

1. The school has a review course call UMBR in Miami and beginning this past semester all students in the 12 week 5th semester can take this course without paying any extra fees. For those who want to take additional review course b/c UMBR is (terrible), Kaplan or Falcon are attractive choices. BAsic sciences teaching- Some professors are good, some OK, and some are terrible but overall they do a decent job introducing materials to students. Don't expect 100% great professors anywhere as people teach/learn differently
2. Ck. the Ross website. or the clinical sticky above. Once you fax them a passing STep 1 scores, they'll place you in clinical rotations affiliated with the schools upon request. Teaching during 3-4th year is at hospitals just like at LCME schools.
3. If you're on Financial Aid, then yep u gotta retake all the classes to meet the US dept. of education requirement. But if you pay out of your pockets then you will retake the class you fail.
4. Check ERAS or NRMP websites for residency application procedures. We apply through ERAS just like everybody else. The school writes u a Dean's Letter and send ur transcripts to ECFMG upon request.

Not sure what year you are at Ross but you seem to have knowledge that most Ross students take Kaplan or Falcon review courses to pass the USMLE 1. Maybe your right and my son was an exception but he bascially use Golian tapes, First AID, BRS books and notes from his 1st five semesters at Ross.He also used Qbank questions. He felt that any additional information would be overload and therefore didn't take areview course. He studied 8 hours a day for two months.

I actually know a LOT of students from my Miami class that did not take a review program at all. I think it is quite common actually to not take review courses.
I'm not sure if UMBR is included in 5th semester or not. Current students will have to update us on that.

maybe i was cheap or maybe I just couldnt afford it , but I never took a review course for any of the steps. Did it all on my own. I used kaplan books, first aid and some BRS books for step one.and I felt like that was very adequate. for step one everbody has a different method, whether it be review courses or reviewing their old notes from the island. Step II you either study on your own or take a course. I , again, used kaplan books and first aid. THere is no set method, whatever you feel will work best for you is what you should do.

UMBR for "Free"?
I wonder if they have any extra test prep material along the lines of Kaplan qbank.
otherwise, umbr probably is a crock of poo.
does anyone know if the new 12 week program gives us extra time to study? or do they load us with more crap to do during the extra 3 weeks?

Actually Link 626, the reason that so many people are able to sell their Kaplan books without any markings is that many people who attend Kaplan don't have time to read through all their books. From what I understand, the lecturers do not use the books as lecture guids. They are completely supplementary.
UMBR does provide some material, but unless things have changed it isn't anything like the Kaplan review books.
