If you come from a family of doctors, would it be wise to mention this in your PS? And if one of your grandparents just happens to be famous, but has no link to medicine, would you include it in your PS? I'm reluctant to write of such things b/c I don't want to sound boastful; I think it's better to be modest. But I don't know how the admiss. comm. feels. What do ya'll think? :dancepar:

i woud only mention it if there is a question on it or if an interviewer asked for it.

It all depends on how it is relevant to your choice of medicine as a career. Your grandfather being famous? Depends on what for. As for your family being doctors, I would imagine that played a large role for you. Explain why it did, but also explain why medicine wasn't "chosen" for you by your family, but why it was also a personal decision for you. Tell what influenced you, but what you ultimately learned on your own.

Good luck! I'm glad that I'm done with writing mine, but also aware that I have to write my residency statement in 3 years. :(

PS is about who you are and what you stand for. It's something for them to get a real good picture of you. Let who you are shine out and let that be what they would want.

cooli,

if your family lineage enhances your PS, mention it. :)
