Hey guys,

I have been accepted to Ross Sept. 2005 (yeah!) and I'm super excited about going! But I've also been accepted into St. George's for January 2006. I have already decided to go to Ross (put in my deposit, etc.) because at my interview, Ross really made a great impression on me. But I'm really worried about not obtaining residency in Texas (preferably Houston, since that's where I'm from). I hate to repeat anything that has already been asked on this forum, but I'm kinda in a dilemma. As much as I am happy & very grateful to have got into Ross, I'm really worried about obtaining residency in Texas. Since my family is here, I would really like to come back. I've seen that not very many people have come back to Texas, and I was wondering if my chances of getting a residency in Texas/Houston would be easier or harder depending on which school I went to, Ross or SGU? If you guys could help me out & tell me what you think, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you so much!!! :)

Jtl529:I am speaking as a father of a Ross student in Clinicals.

Both schools are excellent choices. My son chose Ross for less expensive , get out Island in 16 months. He started clinicals in 23 months. As far as Texas goes he should search this site which has several posts indicating Ross is the only FMG that the state of Texas has deemed equivilant to a LCME school. SGU claimed at their presentation that all clinical rotations were ACGME. Ross has many DO rotations. If you are unsure where toi practice and you attend ROSS make sure you ask your clinical advisor for all ACGME rotations. If someday down the road you decide to practice in Pennsylvania I beleive the requirement is 100% ACGME rotations. One plus I saw for SGU is they have several clinical sites where you can do all clinical rotations. It definitely makes it easier when trying to find a place to live. It becomes difficult to find a decent place to stay fo a 6 week rotation.

Just some thoughts from a senior citizen.

Good luck with your choice.

As I said both schools will help you acheive your goal of becoming an MD if you put 110% into your studies.

I think either school will get you there -- both are great. Right now, however, Ross is the only one that is approved by the Texas Board. That may have more to do to licensure though and SGU will likely be approved eventually. But since you have already sent your deposit to Ross and are excited about it, stick with your decision and get ready to go!

Enjoy your time in Dominica! Work hard and you'll do great.
