To those of you whoe have already spent at least one term in Grenada, what kind of budget should I have for food, entertainment, cell phone, etc. for each month?

that varies a lot.
cell phone u can get those prepaid plan. i dont usually spent over 40EC a term on cell phone. incoming calls are free.
food...my budget is about 200-300 US/month. i cook a lot and thus save a lot of money. if u eat out, its about 10-20 EC /meal and could be more expensive.
entertainment? hmm thats hard to say. most entertainment i get is from dled tv shows and movies and beer. its not that bad. i will say that my budget with everything is probably around 400US/month

Depends on what's important to you, I probably spent probably EC200 a week at the grocery store(but I like to cook and would pretty much buy what I wanted), about EC300/ month on cell phone calls- 1st term was less because I used DialPad, but got lazy and used the cell or landline to make calls this last term and probably went out to dinner a couple of times a week, so probably ~ 200-300EC a week on that- so what is that? about US 200 a week- grenada is not cheap!! ( of course winning at poker helped offset some of these expenses!!!!)

Incoming calls are free?!?! That is awesome. Between caller ID and cheap calling plans in the US I would think that most people could get by with really low cell phone bills.

Hey...I think I spent $400 US a month...so that was for 4 months which came to $1600 and I brought $2500...and yes incoming calls are free...I had C&W...I bought a phone that came with 10EC's worth of minutes for 70EC I think which comes to about $28US ...and then from then on I just bought 10EC phone cards to add minz to my phone to call friends and just to have minz on my phone just incase anything.....it was basically like a prepaid cell phone...you dont get any bills ...The free incoming was only for calls from the US...if my friends on the island called my minz would get deducted and so would theirs...I never called home...they alwayz called me cuz it was free for me:)

Has anyone been using msn video instant messenger at SGU with someone in the States?? I have been using it for a while with family members between states. I don't know if it will work between Grenada and the states.

Skype PC to PC is free, anywhere in the world.

Skype PC to phone (US, Can) is very, very cheap, less than 1 cent US per minute. You need a credit card to open an account. They charge a minimum of 10 Euros when depositing money. Its simple, and very safe.

You should have a broadband connection to get good sound quality.

Does this mean that the connection is going to be good on campus where we have WiFi?

connection is at 11mbps. be considerate. when u stream or dl stuff u are taking away other ppls bandwidth. thats why at times, the connection will be choppy and inconsistent.

So... do people receiving skype calls in the US pay for anything? If I called a mobile phone using skype from grenada, will they be charged anything extra or just their minutes, whether its peak or not?

They aren't charged a cent, except for their own minutes.
