Has anybody here been successful in returning back to Texas for residency?
Rotations in tx, I know, are impossible. Residency seems POSSIBLE but not likely especially for more competitive specialties. In checking the match lists for the past few years for Ross, I've noticed it's usually only a handful of people that match in Texas. Is this just because not a lot of people WANT to go there, or because it's difficult to get back, considering that Texas is not very friendly to FMG's??
I'm just looking for some stories from people that have made it back to Texas to do their residency. or if you KNOW of someone that's done this.
Thanks.

It's going to be difficult to find someone to answer who has actually done a residency in Texas.
Texas prides itself on in state "homegrown" doctors, as demonstrated by their own med school application service, bypassing the national application service.
According to the licensure office, you can actually do "a few" rotations in texas but any after that will lead to "the road to unlicensure". What ever that means.
There are not that many texans who attend Ross(maybe 4 a semester), so that is one reason there is only a handful that obtain residencies is texas, so that's a positive way of looking at it.
I don't think we should have an extremely difficult time getting a noncompetitive residency, but I haven't seen anyone yet get a more competitive one.
Supposedly there is a guy coming from Texas Tech who is going to be on the texas board who is friends with bosses in New Jersey, and who has a more favorable aspect of Ross. We'll see.
Maybe someone else has a story.

Sint Eustatius School of Medicine has a student doing a residency in Texas, but nobody from SESOM has applied for a full license as of yet.
If you satisfy all the rules for Tx license then you should have no problem.
Therefore, I think that a residency is surely possible and licensure most likely possible. Texas residencies are hard to obtain, so best of luck to you.

I know of 2-3 people in my class who actually got residencies in Texas this year. They are all originally from texas (so that seems to help).
Since Ross is now recognized by the Texas Medical Board, there shouldn't be too much of a worry....so hold on tight. Just get thru Ross and you'll be back in TX sooner than you think!
