Can I drink the water?

I noticed that SGU tells students to bring a Brita water filtration system. I'm not too picky about my water. it doesn't have to be fancy, sparkling, bubbling, crisp spring water like that from a Brita system. But I'm also not too keen on tapeworms, either.

I guess my worry is that this is SGU's sneaky way of telling students that they need a water purifier. Are there stories of people catching any crazy bugs from the water?

i drink the water from the campus. no problems.
SGU has its own desalination plant that is separate from the island. so its pretty good and reliable in my opinion

Don't bother with the Brita filter. Most of the student buy bottled water. Most students have diarrhea for the 1st month or so from the Giardia and cryptosporidium in the water and the brita filter does not filter these parasites from the water.

brita doesnt but PUR does! but u have to the PUR's ultimate filter!

Sounds like I'll make some room in the luggage and just bring my backpacking filter.

Think I'll be experiencing enough culture shock without having to lose my meals to the porcelain god. Diarrhea no es bueno

giardia will CLEAN your whole system out! it just explodes on you! actually all over you! you probably will need to shower and a new toilet after 1 episode of giardia diarrhea

PUR's ultimate filter saved Babu & roomate at Grand Beach Hotel, where water isn't purified like on campus.

Don't get Brita, use PUR if you decide on a water filter.
