Hi, does a small item mean a regular backpack?
i thought this might help.
American Eagle wishes to remind all customers that the baggage allowance for all American Eagle flights operating in and out of Grenada year round is as follows:


ü 2 pieces checked & 1 carry-on. The total weight may not exceed 70 pounds for the 2 checked pieces. No more than 1 carry-on (maximum 40 lbs) and a small personal item will be allowed for each passenger in accordance with TSA Regulations.



ü All checked baggage must be within standard size specifications.
No boxes will be accepted as checked baggage.
Excess/Oversize & Overweight Baggage will not be accepted.

i had my backpack as my small item plus 1 carry on....

as long as ur item can be store underneath ur seat it should be fine. but even if it cant they will give u this red tag and they will store it for u else where..so basically its like a checked carry-on...weird i know..

If you are over weight (by that I mean your luggage) will they send your luggage on a separate flight? can you choose which suitcase?

u usually can choose which suitcases. but sometme they are nice and will just charge u a fee or sometime none at all!
an advice would be that for your carry on, pack some clothes and ur toiletries for 2-3 days just in case anything becomes missing or delayed in coming down to gnd.
