I was scanning My SGU and I came across a rumor where a person was left stranded on a SCUBA dive... how true is this? They didn't give the name of the dive shop that did this...

It's entirely true. The person was stranded, eaten by sharks and never heard from again. The poor student's family was forced to sell the story rights to an unscrupulous movie studio in order to pay off his private student loans that could not be cancelled. The movie was released last summer. You might have heard of it: "Open Water". Now available on DVD/Video at your nearest video rental outlet.

Man, i was totally kidding. A little dark, but so what. I havent heard of anyone being left out in the waters. Not saying it cant happen. I just dont know.

But I have heard of sharks in those waters. And the local boat operators showed my roommate pictures of fairly decent sized sharks that they'd snapped on previous fishing trips...I dont think any students were ever attacked by sharks......Well, not yet.

And there is this humongous turtle that roams the shores; if ure lucky, u may run into it, and u can pose and snap a shot....

i dunno about it happening at sgu, but i have done a lot of reading and it actually happens quite often, notoriously in Mexico. Apparently the dive operators have a few drinks with the divers, some before some after...and then counting gets a little more difficult and ppl are left behind....the whole shark thing is probably more of a hollywood exaggeration though.

NOT COOL

That movie was a joke. If its based on a true story and they never found the bodies how do they know they were eating by sharks? More likely hypothermia that killed them.

well the movie was factual until they got left in the water after that everything is fictional until they get the shark with the camera inside of it.

I suppose it is possible to get left. There are several places in Grenada that do Dive trips. Most students use the one attached to the Resort at True Blue Bay. They are full service with good equipment for rent and can do the certification. It is a PADI 5 star dive shop. So if you had a problem you could contact PADI and let them know

There was a rumor last term that Dive Grenada left 3 divers in the water while diving the Bianca C... They were found 2 hours later after they drifted miles down from the dive site...

But I don't know how true the rumor is...
