Wow, that's impressive!
Just another proof for ALL of US that if you're willing to do the work, you'll get there, and beyond!

Great Accomplishment!

I just have one question though. It says he graduated from St. Matthews in 2001 and started a fellowship in 2002 but did not mention a residency at all. Did he graduate and enter into a RESEARCH (not post grad MEDICINE) to get his foot in the door so that he then could apply for a surgery residency and then a cardiac surgery fellowship? I guess I'm confused about the process. Any ideas?

Yeah, it says he graduated in 2001 and the "cardiac surgery research fellowship" was in 2002... sounds like a research job for someone who didn't match. That was 3 years ago now, so I wonder if he ever got the surgery residency he probably wanted.

If you follow the link that he provided, it shows the research company he worked for: http://www.medstarresearch.org/research/cardiacsurgery.htm

He's not the first person to go into surgery !

If you check on www.stmatthews.edu ... you will see many matched into surgery
and in competitive spots.

This guy is not an attending surgeon for cardiac. It takes 4 years of general surgery and 3 years post for a total of 7 years. Maybe he is somewhere in a general program doing research in cardiac but graduating in 2001 he is not an attending.

Hi. This fine Dr. is in research; apparently, he is not doing surgery. After medical school, you do five years general surgery residency; then 2-3 years cardiothoracic surgery fellowship. 3 years if you want to learn heart transplantation. Best wishes!
