Hello all,
I've done some reading on past posts with airlines and baggage allowances. Mostly, i've read about AA. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with USairways & carribean star? I am heading down in a couple of weeks. My flight heads down from Charlotte to Barbados then to GND. Oh it does make stops - i think like 4 stops to various islands, but i am assuming i am still on the plane and its just dropping off people.

I would appreciate it much if anyone has experiences to share on those 2 airlines going down to GND? Also, anyone know baggage wt with them? I am planning to call USairways tomorrow to check on it.

Thanks alot,
Casper555

US Air and Caribbean Star both allow 2 70 lb bags. Usually the US air flights I've taken have gone through PHL and they do manage to lose at least one bag between PHL and BGI, don't know how they are from CLT (though I flew to St. Martin from CLT and they managed to lose a bag)- you're coming around Carnival, so just get use to the idea that your bags will not arrive with you (they WILL eventually arrive, just not on the same day) regardless of what airline you fly.

No - Caribbean star allows 2 - 50 lb bags as check in + 15lb carry on of specific dimensions. This allowance is only possible if you are travelling international and have a single ticket with another airline and caribbean star is a connecting flight. Otherwise, if you book separately, it is 50lbs TOTAL checked-in; anything over is subject to charges.

Check the tix jacket on this Caribbean Star DOES allow 2 70 lb bags as a rule- this from someone in her 1.5 years in GND that brought a total of 15 bags down to GND- I double checked this inside and out(Have had separate record tix from BGI to GND and GND to SVD and got 2 70lb bags)

Hi there,
thanks for both the replies. I didn't call yet, but i checked on caribbean star's website and pasted the link below and what it states. Well my flight is a continuous tx - bought tx via travelocity. my flight starts in SAV to CLT to BGI then GND. I'm not sure about the wt. policy? Perhaps it all depends on who you get at the ticket counter? I'm confused, will i have to recheck my bags at BGI? Usually when i go abroad, (eg. London) I check my luggage all the way to Heathrow. So with GND can I check them all the way thru or collect them at BGI, due to a smaller airplane - then recheck back in ?
Thanks for replies in advance. I'm a newbie this year.

Carry-on or hand baggage is restricted to one piece per passenger and should not exceed the size of a normal airline flight bag or be any more than 15lbs. Space to store hand baggge in-flight is very limited. The overhead bins will not accommodate most Pullmans. This is indeed limiting. If passengers are ticketed on one document (one airline document providing continuous travel for the entire flight) as in one ticket being used on different airlines then we will accept this international baggage at an allowance of 2 pieces per passenger not to exceed 50lbs per piece while regional travelers baggage allowance must not exceed 50lbs total. Pieces and weight in excess of this would be charged and treated as Standby Excess Baggage.

That's the quirky thing about BGI, they have you go through immigration and customs, collect your bags and then recheck them over at the airline counter. Now they are making changes to the airport, so I don't necessarily know if this still holds true(would have found out, but since I missed my connector in BGI because LIAT was late, I had to stay the night in LIAT and had to go out into BGI).

The non-stop flight from NYC on Air Jamaica is sounding better and better with all of these horror stories of lost luggage and missed connections. It is also my understanding that Air Jamaica allows you two 70lbs. checked bags and one 40lbs. carry-on for a total of 180lbs. of luggage. I live in Indianapolis but I think I'm going to make the trip to NYC just for the convenience of non-stop and extra luggage.

Caribbean star did have more luggage space than AA..... nicer flight...and because often it was half full....no lineups...you could check your heavy bags in with no problem...even over weight.... and go get breakfast. Once I used them...and I ran out of AA points....I only flew with them. Way more relaxed and it was a much more secured luggage delivery!
