Hello,
Alchemist here again.
I have a question about what kind of electronic gadgets are required or would be very useful to have during clinicals. I'm thinking about getting a recording device, and thought of the Ipod or COWAN, and then realized that maybe if we are required to have a PDA or any other electronic gadget, I would just put my money into getting that, instead of $300 for an Ipod.
Can anyone advise?
also what is a good PDA that has voice recording (I'm also looking for wi-fi, processor speed, screen size, small dimensions, etc..)
thanks all.

get a palm lifedrive dude.. its nice. Granted, its 500 bucks but its nice. Still tons of software for the palm but pocketpc is catching up. I have a tungsten C, and its got a keyboard and wi-fi... I've even posted on valuemd with it!(something I'm not very proud of)

Hey dude, first of all, you aren't going to need ANYTHING for clinicals for about two years. The technology will advance very far in that time. Something you buy now will still be useful in two years, but if you wait until then you will either be able to buy a much nicer one, or get one of the current ones for probably 1/3 of the price. Very few AUC students use PDA's during classes. Some people record lectures, but they usually use things like a Creative MUVO (also doubles as a USB key). Honestly, a laptop and a USB key are the only "gadgets" you'll need until clinicals.
Oooh, and just in general, it is always best/cheapest to wait to buy electronics until you are actually going to need/use them. Best way to stay top of the line.
...and Microphage, don't you have a Dengue research presentation to prepare for. Stop screwing around on the internet :)

Palm products never seem to go down in price as fast as pocketpcs. Mine was $399 2-years ago.. and its still about 300-350 right now.
Dengue.. I know more about dengue now than I ever cared for. It's a damn virus. And I'm already done my part of the research so I just sit back and wait...
Don't u have a USMLE to study for Mitch?

i personally like my hp ipaq
plays music, records, plays movie clips (i actually have watched episodes of simpsons, the family guy, and so forth on there)--or if you have a large enough memory card a movie--
wireless, bluetooth, microsoft pocket office, and it is fast enough to use with skype on a wireless network

I wouldn't know but if you buy me one, I'll tell ya.
I have a Tungsten C and I get an entire week out of one charge. I doubt anybody is gonna sit there and use a palm like a laptop. You use it to look up things and then off it goes. The Tungsten C has something like a 1800 mAh battery while most of the other palms have 800-900 mAh batteries. I'm not sure about the lifedrive though.

LOL-- well, kinda... like he might be using ms office for writing up ICM reports....
You can pickup a LifeDrive fairly cheap(er) now that its been out for a few months. My roommate got one about a month ago for $450-ish
Lowest price shipped right now is about $418 for a new one.
