Hopefully I'll get good news in a few weeks, then I can work on the hard part...obtaining loans.

start working on repairing your credit now then. and also see if someone wants to be a co-signer for ya.

I'm steadily working on improving my credit. Right now my scores are 600-635. If I can get them all to around 650, I feel better about being able to get a loan without a cosigner. But I will probably have one in case the need arises.

Co-signer also allows you to get better rates and I think lower fees(I could be wrong).

I wasn't so lucky to have a co-signer... I, myself carry this burden :(

Say I were to get admitted within the next few weeks. How long after I gain admission do I need to come up with the tuition money, deposits, etc?
I've been in such a hurry to get my app sent in early that I didn't think about it being TOO early, meaning not enough time to get my credit in order.

You'll need to come up with your $1500 Enrollment Reservation Fee in a relatively timely manner. In your acceptance letter, I think they give you a couple of weeks to pay the fee. If the money is not readily available, MEAS will work with you on the payment date(s). Your seat is not secured until they get their money.

Approval of Stafford and private loans went very quick for me. I had all my loans put to bed inside two weeks. I did FEDEX everything to the lender and AUC to cut down on the time. As long as your loans are approved and certified by the school prior to registration, you should be good to go.

Recommend you talk with the financial aid office about any concerns you may have.

If you don't mind me asking, which private loan co. did you use? I'm sure you had better credit than I, if you had no problems.

Initially got pre-approved by Sallie Mae over the phone. When they later told me their terms, I promptly applied with Xpress and was pre-approved in 24 hrs (due to some computer glitch...normally, I think they approve over the phone too). I went with Xpress. Xpress had no origination or repayment fees/points and their rate was slightly cheaper than Sallie Mae.

Once the lenders receive their promissory note and approve you, they send the loan info to MEAS for certification. Once MEAS certifies it, you're good to go. Xpress sent confirmation letters for pre-approval and final approval.

If you think you might have problems with your credit report or FICO score, I'd call the lenders and discuss their approval criterion. Better to know upfront what they look for than get surprised late in the game.
