To Current Saba Students:
I Am Planning To Buy Some Scrubs And Wondering If I Should Have Them Sew My Name On The Shirt. I Don't Want To Look Weird In Anatomy Class So Please Give Me Some Inputs.

This semester there are about 3 or 4 people with names on their scrubs, but I think you might want to burn your scrubs after the semester is over....
...On the island, they sell scrubs with the SABA University SOM logo...but they'll cost you about $40...

Did you say $40 for scrubs on Saba? Wow, talk about inflation! Lucky I bought like 4 pairs then, just in case. Ciao.

Nobody cares as long as your not naked....the professor requires scrubs in lab, though.
After the first.. like 2 days, nobody cares that you have cute pink dancing teddy bear scrubs with your name emblazened on them in elegant curly letters.

Got it, where can you get them with your name on it?
Also, can you write John Smith, M.D. (in training), (candidate), or something along those lines? Also, is it appropriate to include other post-graduate titles you earned (i.e. Doctorate or Masters) at this stage in your medical career/studies?

I bought my scrubs at http://www.allheart.com. You can get your name on the scrubs for a bit more. I don't think anyone would really care if you have your name or any other titles on the scrubs. As someone eluded to earlier, you may want to throw them away after 1st semester is over. Ciao.

Is that what you brought to wear, wolf? lol

You are correct about the scrubs (largely disposable). However, I was referring to names and titles on lab coats during as a medical student in clerkships?

Plan on answering to 'hey, you" or worse.
I worked on an IM rotation with a guy who had his name followed by "Student Physician" embroidered on his short white coat. I thought it looked pretty silly and arrogant. Just my opinion.

Only on thursdays when I wear the high heels....the rest of the time I wear the same bland scrubs everyone else does....
As far as putting your list of degrees and accomplishments or "physician in training" or whatever on your lab coat:
You'll want to be realizing right now that your creds might be impressive back home, but in med school I've realized quickly that even with degrees and experience in four different fields, I'm just another guy struggling to git-r-done.
Leave your ego at home, and you'll be better liked and respected by all, I'm learning. It's a tough lesson.
The school gives 5th semester students little gold name tags to pin on their lab coats when they don their coats and have pictures made early in 5th semester...but I seriously doubt many wear the name tags after that. Just wear whatever ID the hospital makes you wear....who wants to wear something extra that screams "I love scut, so pimp me hard"?
Just my opinion... and as always I have a 50% chance of being wrong.

I agree with wolf as I would not personally like to see anyone in my class wear something like that. As wolfvgang22 rightly pointed out, there are a lot of students, especially non - trads who have had great accomplishments before they embark on the journey to Medical School - some tangible and some not. So, to actually advertise someone's personal tangible results (like a degree or that you would one day be a physician) would be discomforting at the least and insulting for most of the people that surround you.
I am not sure if I would like people to see me that way, especially during the most critical phase of my life !! .. Oh well.. but thats me !!
Just my 2 cents

On the contrary wolf, at St. Luke's most of us are still wearing our gold name tags on our coats, even though we have the hospital ones as well. It's easy just to leave in on there and easier to see than some of those dangly tags.
I actually got a compliment on the gold name tag from a resident who used to attend UMKC. To be honest I don't like the UMKC tags either. haha

I'd just go with the plain white coat. Hospitals issue ID with your name and picture. Having stuff embroidered on you coat makes you look like a tool. Just one man's opinion.....

That's cool, since everybody's doing it. I should probably moderate my statement at little bit; I didn't mean to sound overly harsh about one simple question....it's just that the little things seem to get so magnified over here in med school, I guess.

just so you're aware, some people use their 1st semester scrubs for the micro and/or neuro lab once you get up in the ranks. Probably even more just wear them to school because they don't have any more clean clothes.

Scrubs are prety comfortable to wear at all times. I some times go to sleep on them when clean. I guess I will be wearing them for the rest of my life. By the way the hospital where I work at as respiratory therapist provides the scrubs for all physcicians, that may be the case in most hospitals, so do not buy many pairs...

GREAT THREAD GUYS....SERIOUSLY.
go ahead and embroider whatever toolish moniker you want onto your scrubs and lab coat. Oh, and don't forget to have yer mom sew your name into your underwear waistband too.
Anyone with "Joe Smith, M.D. (in training)" on the front of his/her coat might as well embroider "KICK ME" on the back of it too.
sincerely,
"KRUST3, M.D. (in application process)"

One thing I have noticed....it doesn't matter if you wear a banana-hammock to class if you know your stuff. Other students will be your best friend if you know all the answers and can help them learn. Sure, they might make fun of you later, but you'll be da man. :D

You need scrubs on 4th and 5th semester as well. I suggest the scrubs in Costco.
