What do students usually do for food? Do restaurants deliver for the students. Are the grocery stores walking distance and are they very expensive?
Thanks

(My friend, all of these answers are easily found by searching)
Well, I usually forage through other peoples garbage or sniff out the poisonous berries from the yummy ones. Leaves of three leave them be, leaves of four eat some more.
Some restaraunts deliver, like the Thai place, Dominoes, Church's Chicken, etc. Grocery stores are slightly more expensive than their US counterparts. And the closest store is in Maho which is a good 5 minute drive, so feasibly you can walk there but I highly recommend against it.
there are a lot of restaurants that are in walking distance... some of them serve "exotic" food such as cat meat.
but for me, i just cook. buy a lot of instant noodles at the local supermarket.

I wouldn't exactly call making instant noodles cooking.

Why not just get a "grocery-getter" car from a student who is leaving? Sometimes, a student will even take a check from you, not submit it to their bank until you've let them know that you're loan check has hit your own back (you can email them or something). Just a thought.
If you have a car, the island is your...oyster. You have a good selection of grocery stores and places to go for food.
bottom line - CAR!
If you are seriously wanting to try to not buy a car...its been done before. Do a monthly grocery shopping via taxi or borrow a friends car, etc.

In addition to what has already been said:
Grocery stores are just like in the US. For a quick bite to eat, there are a few places to eat right by the school (a little bit of everything:American, Chinese, Italian,a small market with sandwiches and pre-made dishes). There is a Subway that is fairly close as well (in maho).
I wouldn't exactly call making instant noodles cooking.
if i added a slice of ham and turkey, would that count as cooking?
renting a car every 3 weeks isn't a bad idea at all. me and my friends do that. you can rent one at bestdeals for 25 dollars (without insurance).

$25 plus $10 for insurance plus $8 tax. Still, not a bad price split three ways. Get your groceries done and go out and night for some debaucherous activities. Plus, if you're cool with them, they may drive you back to campus.

I always eat out. All the dang restaurants are closin down for low season though. At least the gyro truck in Simpson Bay will stay open. I have been eatin those instead of drivin over to the ghetto French side. Closer and fresher...

You can save the insurance by using a credit card that provides insurance for rental cars.
I wouldn't buy the insurance anyways, since the deductible is like $800.

I live in Beacon Hill, so I usually just kill one of the many dogs that are running around and cook them on the grill. A 45 pound dog can feed me for about 5 or 6 days because dogs have a lot of bone...and I don't eat the organs, liver is just gross.
