I know the federal loan is simple because it is needs based. Are there any other needs based loans available? Which private loans are the easiest to obtain? From what I can gather, Teri loans are impossible unless your credit is impeccable, which is not the case with me. Have any of you had any success with credit scores ranging in the mid 600s?

Most people get it through Sallie Mae, and since a majority of students at AUC have short credit history, it's not too difficult to obtain, especially with a good cosigner.

AUC has quickly become my top choice. I may be able to find a cosigner, but there's a good chance that I won't. I'm working on my credit now, so hopefully in a few months, I'll be able to apply to Sallie Mae and get approved.

Try applying anyways, I have a mid 600 credit score and I got approved.

I don't know if Xpress has a FICO cutoff or not, but I'd check with them too. For me, their terms were more favorable that those offered by Sallie Mae.

Get stafford through Xpress, Sallie Mae for your other 30,000

I got both loans from Xpress. Just compare the rates and points. Sallie Mae wanted repayment points....Xpress didn't. Points add up...esp if you roll them into the principle for repayment. Their APR's were comparable, but Xpress offered a slightly better rate.
You're talking about a significant amount of $$$$ when you consider points, rates, and compounded interest. Get the best rate you can, no matter which lending source you use.

Points, schmoints, I really don't care if it's the Bank of Enron, I'm more worried about getting approved without a cosigner, lol.

t_diddy - I think the "easiest" is Sallie Mae or Nellie Mae...Xpress and Terri, and others are harder to get because they have more strict guidelines on what they'll accept on your credit report before giving you a loan. I would go with Sallie Mae.
