How much of a hassle is it to live on the far side of the Dutch side? Is Pelican Grove to far for a student to drive. I have noticed the prices of rentals are much cheaper there. Is it worth the savings? Also, I can not find a map with Betty's Estate on it. Can someone point me in the right direction.

hi there..my fiance and I live in Pelican key and we find we have no problem getting to and from school. Our apartment is 2/3 the price of the ones by the school and is about 3X as big. We have two full bathrooms, a HUGE bedroom, a patio with a view of the ocean, a private patio off our bedroom, and our own washer/dryer. Plus, our furniture is all cushioned, not cheap wicker junk.

Going to school in the AM is no problem...there's very rarely any traffic. If you choose to go home at 5pm, you will be stuck in traffic for a good half hour. BUT if you leave right after class by 4pm, or stick around until about 6 when traffic dies down, its not a problem.

We've lived here for 10 months now and I have only been caught by the bridge twice. Most of the time, the bridge goes up when you will not have to be around.

I don't know where that real estate agent is...but thought I'd give you our 2 cents on Pelican Key. I would definately reccommend it.

I live in Pelican I usually try to leave about 25-30 minutes before class starts and I've NEVER been late for my first class. I'm usually there about 10 minutes early. The bridge goes up at 11:30 and 5:30 for about 15 minutes (and two other times, but I literally don't even know when they are- it's that little of a hastle)

If you have a car, most places are close. (37 square mile island). I lived in Marigot. Much less expensive and a very nice place, at least for myself. 15 minute drive to the school through the lowlands. Took just as long coming from Pelican Key with average traffic. In my opinion, it was cleaner and safer than much of the Dutch side. And cheaper. Average electric bill for my studio w/loft was about $30/month with two air conditioners running full power 24/7. Apt was ~$700/month. Water was ~ $15 every three months. Have heard people complain about water and electric prices on the Dutch side being in the hundreds every month so they would suffer with little/no air. Don't know for sure. Even my phone was reasonable. Prepaid home phone service. Cheaper than cell phone, calling card, and even call-backs.
Just realize, like life, there are other options available.

I lived 5 mins from school... walking. I'm usually late to class or just flat out missed class for the past 2 years.

yeh after you moved 12 times.....just be careful if you live near school, more opportunity for people you know to walk by your apartment while you're doing naked yoga
