Hey gang,
Due to the limited amount of items I can cram into my luggage (70 lbs max each bag for international destinations) and the fact that my textbooks alone weigh in excess of 40 lbs, I was conteplating the advice in the student orientation guide to have them sent to AUC in my name and have the school hold them for me until I get there.
Have any of you done this or know of anyone who did? I have nightmares about USPS or the Antillean mail service "misplacing" my texts...."Tongson? We don't have any packages for a Mr. Tongson!"
Any advice/suggestions :?:

Aloha,

Scan all 5000 pages to PDF, copy to laptop computer. Voila!

Actually, I am dealing with the same issue, any ideas?

Aloha,

Jon, you should have been a comedian ... I can actually here that voice in my head ... that's some funny stuff.
On a lighter side, I am a little concerned myself. Hopefully, my FEDEX friend can fix me up.

Yup same problems here.....

What I was thinking, however, was to bring Netter's Anatomy and Lippincott's Biochem books with me. They seem to be the most important ones....if the other ones get lost/delayed it still seems like we could get by with just these 2.

Am I correct in assuming this??

Hi!

Word of advice, ONLY bring the books that are on your required list. DO NOT bring others. You will not need anything but what is on the required list. The library has most other books you may need.

But, if you insist on shipping 40 lbs worth of books, I recommend looking into Intermar. They are a Florida based shipping company that ships by boat (this is hurricane season, so stuff may arrive later than you will be told). They are NOT a mail service, so only ship big stuff thru them. They are relatively inexpensive. Here is their info:

INTERMAR INTERNATIONAL
1882 NW 82ND AVE, MIAMI, FL 33126
(305) 716-0111

I know of other students who use Tropical Shipping. Unfortunately I do not have their information. I will try to find it for you though.

You can take up to 40lbs of stuff onto the plane as carry-on... and most of the time they don't weigh your carry-on! So you can put your heavy books in a big carry-on suitcase.

But I can't think of a reason why you need to bring so many books to the island?? You can always buy or "inherit" some of the books and notes from your upperclassmen...this saves the cost and trouble of lugging those heavy doorsteps

And scanning books into PDF may work too!!
