They are very far from approval. Once the application is submitted, it can take up to 7 years!! In fact I went to the Medical Board of California and spoke to them in person. She said not to hold my breath on Saba. Even then, it is not a gurantee that the school will get approved. Ofcourse Saba will tell you that it's only a matter of time before they are recognized by California. That's a lie!!
One other thing, Saba has some realllyyyyy bad profesors. In fact we had a profesor who visited from Saba (at Ross), taught a few classes and was told to leave because he was so awful. In fact, half of the class left. No teaching style at all. Name was Dr. Raja. THE WORST I have ever had!!!
Anyhow, just a heads up.

What makes a professer bad? His accent? Well, i don't think that that matters. I read some of the posts on the Ross forum about this prof's visit and i have talked to some current Saba students about this prof and they all confirm one thing: BE PREPARED FOR YOUR LECTURES! That is: read ahead and don't expect this to be HIGH SCHOOL where the prof will explain things in "easy to understand" terms so that you can catch up and comprehend what is being said.
Unfortunatly from what ive heard about the recent students at ROSS,most (not all) seem to be immature and act like they are in HIGH SCHOOL ex:
guys with earrings, tattoos, dyed hair)...GROW UP! U guys want to be physicians......JEEEZ!...take a maturity pill or something.
Its no wonder the majority of these students left during Dr.Raja's lecture;
they werent prepared for the lecture and thus could not understand a thing he was saying and left the lecture (early) concluding that he was a "bad prof" whereas they should have blamed themselves for not being prepared by doing the required readings. There was one post on the ROSS forum that actually said the prof actually had some valid things to discuss and that those who stayed for the lecture understood some of his points.
I havent heard from any Saba students complaining about this prof b/c it seems to me that they come prepared to lecture. MED SCHOOL is SELF LEARNING at its best, so don't blame a prof for not being able to explain something to you. The info in med school is not Astrophysics, its simpler BUT there is a lot of it. So its up to you to get the most out of your education, let's not blame others for mistakes that lie within ourselves.

Oh yeah i forget. I got an email from Pat Park (Foreign School Liasion with the Medical Board of California) and she told me that Cali will be visiting Saba this fall for a site visit. She said there are no guarantees BUT with Saba's NEW YORK APPROVAL, California approval is not just a possibility. So my money is on Saba getting Cali approval some time MID-NEXT year. She also said that this approval MAY BE retroactive, meaning that those students who graduated from Saba before Cali approval was attained MAY ALSO BE ELIGIBLE to practice and do residency in California.
ALL IN ALL the future for Sa****s looks promising! :D

Have you ever attended a lecture by a Ross professor? If you did, you would probably realize the significant difference between the visting professor and our professors here. I attended that lecture that day, and it was unbearable. If medical schools were self taught, why do we even need professors? Might as well pack my bags, go home, save a ton of money, and teach myself to become a doctor. You need people who not only knows the stuff, but also knows how to teach it. Words cannot decribe what I am telling you. Make the comparison yourself, then you will understand. Professors here do make stuff easier for us to understand, but the level material is never compromised. There are always easier ways to do anything in life. You may choose the harder way, and be proud of that. Some people study 15 hours a day, and they believe they are very accomplished. People who knows how to attck the material with stategy can learn twice the material with much less time. Bottom line, you can do things the easy way or you can do it the hard way, and you will still reach the end either way. I prefer to do it the easy way.

Ross, Saba, AUC or even St. George. It doesn't matter we are still caribbean med schools. Sad as it may seem most US doctors seem them all as just another Caribbean med school. So you say Ross has better teachers so? Will this undo the fact that you are a Caribbean med school student? And as for the "I prefer to do it the easy way" comment do you realize how shallow that comment was? Instead of the doing it the easy way why not do it the correct way and with character.
Are there any Ross students out there that disagree with biologyman I suggest you stick up for your school because if he is the standard of Ross, than what type of low standard does Ross have for the character of the doctors they produce.
As Caribbean med school students we need more than school name recognition we need integrity and character because we have to prove that we are not only good doctors but good people as well.

Yes it does help to have good teaching but good teaching is relative to every person. It still boils down to the person themselves if they are able or willing to adapt to what the situation needs.
But my point before was that for another Caribbean med school student to be putting down another Caribbean med school student for the school they went too is very shallow. Why? Because we are all in the same boat. Don't believe me? Go talk to some US med school students about Caribbean medical schools and they'll tell you its for people who couldn't get into a real medical school. It is exactly the attitude all Caribbean medical school students must face when we are on rotations back in the states, so what is the point of getting the same attitude from another Caribbean med school student who is in the exact same boat you are? Face folks what Caribbean medical school you went too doesn't matter, just as long as your able to take step 1 and get license in the States , it all comes down to the person and what they are made of.
So are you one with the character to recognize the high ground or are you the shallow type which just wants to put done others too make themselves feel better.
