are the students getting dumber?
is the quality of teaching starting to decline?
how come so many failures?
any theories?

i know why i came here in the first place is because im not smart enough to go to a med school in states or canada. no arguements there.

im further starting to believe that maybe im not cut out for this anymore. med school is tough.

I have no theories on the number of failures... As to whether any of us is smart enough, I am going to have to disagree with you there. Med students in the US are not smarter, they just worked harder during undergrad. I, for one, had no interest in organic chemistry and it showed! As a tech in the ED of the hospital where I worked, I often knew the patient's diagnosis and course of treatment better than the wide-eyed, clueless American med students rotating through.

Yeah med school is tough, but 1) it will be over eventually, and 2) hundreds of thousands of people before you did it, so you can too! :-)

Nope I doubt if they are any dumber than other terms. It is always iffy with Neuro, and maybe this term did not realise exactly how much work was necessay to pass the exam. The neuro exam has more to do with figuring out the Dx of different diseases, rather than memorising all of the stuff.

... and not forgetting that jet lag is worse going east to west.

perish that thought! You know it's not true that you're here just coz you're not as smart. I'd be willing to bet there's tons of not-too-bright students churning happily thru stateside schools just coz they fit the 'cookie cutter' criteria much better their smarter SGU counterpart.

being smart in med school pales in comparison when compared to perseverance. It doesnt take alot of brains to get through this material

i agree you dont need a lot of brains to get through the material, thats half the battle. its the obsequious questions which have me baffled. stupid question after stupid question.......

And they just keep coming and coming. At the end of the day, it isn't always the brightest ones who make it through, it is the ones with the greatest perseverance.

well...the test was ridic, but to be honest, i had often thought that med school would be ridiculously tough, and that we'd lose a bunch of kids each term. we didnt lose that many last term, i mean, we lost because of LOAs and a few decels, but not as many because of grades as i thought. anyway, maybe it was just the accumulation of term 1 and term 2 all in one big ball.
